Can I blow out lines through sand filter?

This year I switched from a DE filter to a Hayward Sand filter with a Hayward variable speed pump. When closing the pool, in the past, I was able to blow out the lines from the Superpump pump cover through the DE filter and then out the returns.

With my new setup, I was told that you shouldn't blow out the lines through the variable speed pump and then the sand filter since this will cause damage to the pump and/or filter (channeled sand).

Is there a setting on the multiport valve which allows the returns to be blown out from the pump without causing channeling?
Can I blow air through the variable speed pump without causing damage?

The "Recirculate" setting on MPV skips the filter entirely. That said, I don't know how blown air through the MPV will behave.

Blowing through the sand filter won't channel the sand. That's just nonsense.

As long as you don't put excessive pressure on the equipment, it's not going to hurt anything.

The pump generates pressure and pushes water through the sand. It's made to take pressure. As long as you're not putting it under more than 20 psi, it's fine.

Blowing lines doesn't take more than 5 psi.

Both methods are fine. Personally I use "Recirculate" as the Cyclone creates a lot of volume with very little pressure (under 5 lbs.) - Recirculate will bypass the sand, but air will travel upwards through the filter. I do not even believe the unit will spin as it is off when closing the pool. With me, I set up my old pump (without the motor) and new unions specially for closing. Remove the pump and store indoors for the winter. Good luck and keep us posted!

I’ve done thousands and I blow on filter mode, removes 99% of the water in the filter, removing the drain plug isn’t even necessary. I should add I’m in the deep freezing north east lol
I was reading on another thread that after you finished backwashing and rinsing the sand filter you should put it on Recirculate before blowing out the return lines. I'd rather do it your way (leave it on Filter) as I have my sand filter in my shed with no drainage. I'm dreading draining the sand filter via the drain plug and having water all over my pool shed floor. This will be my first time closing and I'm just trying to get as much info as possible.
