On average I find I have to add between 2 and 3 cups of MA per day, I’m in Florida and it’s currently the rainy season but even when it’s not raining my PH is still high almost 8.0 now after adding MA to reduce it my TA is about to hit 90 if I add another two cups of acid, my Ch is also at 130. My FC is currently at 4 I always put in half a gallon per day to keep it balanced I have no CC and my CYA is at 50. Is it normal to keep adding MA every day?

Lowering your TA will normally slow down the pH rise. Do you have any water features, waterfalls, etc?

Sulfuric acid leaves sulfates in the water. Sulfates will eventually destroy concrete (plaster) and metals.

Use muriatic acid. Leaves behind salt.

T-Rod,

I suspect you believe that a pH of 7.2 is better than a pH of 7.8... Quit trying to drop it to 7.2 and let it sit at 7.8 to 8.0.. When it goes over 8.0 only drop it to 7.6... See if that helps at all...

Another option is to add more MA and drop your TA to 60 or 70...

Thanks,

Jim R.

So my calcium hardness increaser by Clorox arrived and I was reading and watching everything I could find to learn how to add it to the pool, there seems to be conflicting views on this subject with some suggesting to broadcast it on the surface in the deep end in increments while others say to dissolve it in a bucket. All I really know is the stuff gets hot when water is added to it and I’ve read stories where people have burned them selves using a bucket as per this post my CH is or was 120 so I added 1 1/4 lbs to the surface of the deep end slowly hopefully it dissolved before hitting the bottom of the pool. I’m guessing this is the reason my PH has been erratic. How do you recommend I handle this problem? Also how long should I wait between each application and taking readings sorry this is so lengthy

Broadcast the calcium chloride as you did. Brush it well each time and you can add it back to back to back.
