Algae Allergy/Reaction

Has anyone ever had a reaction to algae? I pulled my filter to clean it twice in the last week (doing a SLAM) and the the next day I had a very itchy rash on my forearms. The first time there was no chlorine in my pool, the second time it was a 10 so I’m leaning towards the algae rather than chlorine. I’ve been taking care of my pool for about 3 years now and have cleaned an algae filled filter before with no problems. Just curious if anyone else has a reaction to it or could I be reacting to something else. F926E384-B34B-4AB2-8C7B-A814EAAAE515.jpeg

I can't say that I've ever heard of an allergy to algae. Its pretty harmless stuff.

You're definitely reacting to *something* though..... Only on your arms? Did you reach around the filter to grasp it in some fashion? They're made out of fiberglass and folks have discussed here how "painful' that can be.

I did! It’s a big filter (clean and clear 200) and I’m pretty short. It takes a lot of effort for me to get it out. I pull it out by the top ring and pull it towards me. It’s also on its last leg and kind of “fuzzy”. Waiting for my new one to be delivered. It is just my hands and forearms. Fiberglass makes much more sense since my legs and feet get splashed by the algae (I’m a mess after cleaning the filter!). Thanks!!!!
