We've owned this house for over 4 years now, and we inherited a salt water pool that hadn't been opened for several years. As a result of not maintaining the pool, any plaster surface there might have been, was gone. So it was just a bare gunite pool--which I didn't mind at all for the short term. It was beautiful and somewhat functional.
In our first year here, I learned about pool chemistry and took on the job of (actually) draining the swamp, cleaning it, and making it operational again. TFP was EXTREMELY helpful. It was open 2015 and 2016, even though it would regularly lose water, and I had to add a lot of salt. However, I did not open it in 2017 and 2018, due to a lot of construction and excavation happening on site for our geothermal system.
So it's time to finally get the pool resurfaced, have the leak fixed, and then get treated consistently like a real pool. I just found the Pool Math application, and I'm really looking forward to using it, to take the guesswork out of the maintenance equation. I'll be reading and posting some questions regarding resurfacing, our Caretaker system, solar heating, addressing leaks and more.
I've got a pool that I think is 26 x 40, irregularly shaped... and I estimate it holds 36,000 gals.

Glad to have ya here! Where abouts on LI are you? We've certainly got a few "Lung Guylanders" around TFP. Might be your neighbors, even!
