I was thinking about how to extend my swim season. Heating the pool isn’t an option, so I wondered about using a wetsuit.

I know nothing about wetsuits, so did a little searching online. Advice seems all over the place regarding wearing a wetsuit in a chlorine pool; anywhere from it’s fine to the chlorine will destroy the wetsuit.

Anyone here have any experience or advise about this?

Thanks.

Just wash the wetsuit well with fresh water after use in the pool. Dunk the wetsuit in a tub of fresh water.

The wetsuit is not going to disintegrate on you while in the chlorine water.

I dive a lot off the coast of Florida and usually clean the gear in the shallow end, Been doing this for 5 years and I see no problem with my heavily used shorty. A couple of times per year I also use the dive gear to to a thorough bottom inspection and clean. So I'd think you're OK. I usually hang it in the cabana bath shower instead of the sun outside. How cold is your water?

Thanks for the responses. :)

The pool is closed right now. I’m thinking of spring and fall with water temps get into the 60’s.

Years ago I could tolerate some quick laps at those temps. Not now. I don’t like to get in until the water gets above 80.

Back in my sailing days I had to replace the zinks on sail drives underneath the boat. Sometimes temps were in the 60s and it was pretty cold but doable with the wetsuit and dive gear. Please keep us posted when you tried it. Good luck!

Update:

I ordered a wetsuit today. I had no idea there were so many options! Hopefully, I’ll get to test it out this weekend.

Wetsuit review and pics would be interesting.

Dove several times this year including last month in St Maarten. Wreck diving later this week off FL coast. Each time I clean the wet suits in the shallow end then vacuum up the sand. They're all still in great shape and I've had them for years. I dive 10-15 times per year. I hope yours holds up as well as mine have.

I plan to rinse it well after each use. Hopefully, that will help minimize chlorine damage.

Hmmmm.....is the chlorine it tap water going to be an issue? Or is it a low enough level to not be a concern? I’ve read to rinse it with “fresh water”, but I don’t know exactly what was meant by that.
