I have been neglecting the pool due to poor weather and snow. It is winterized. Well we have a cold front coming through delivering single digit temps. I went out and looked and my pool has accumulated a LOT of water since winterization. It was above the tile line essentially as much water as it uses when running. So I have my 2000gph cheapy pump going away trying to lower the water before the front hits in a few hours. I would say at this rate I need another 2 hours to drain below the tile down to the steps. Seems the 2000gph is more like 500 or so. I know they rate those in best case scenarios so never really expected to get 2000gph. Also want to add a gallon of bleach.

Check your pool water level!

The flow rate of those sub pumps are highly restricted when using a garden hose. I glued some 1” PVC pipe with connections to a 1-1/4” discharge hose. I get 22GPM....with a garden hose it goes down to 6GPM.

I'm using 1" flexible tubing. About a 3 foot piece just enough to get over the side. The pump is on the top step.

Yeah, anyone in the Northeast who had their pool winterized and water level lowered should open up a corner of their cover and check their water level. We had the most rainfall ever in November-December in NJ.

For the first time in many years my water level was back above my tile line last week. It took a few hours to pump out 6 inches of water. Will be monitoring it more as we continue to get more rain than snow.

Even here in the warm desert we got some decent winter precipitation AND 4” of snow at the desert floor on New Years Day (Mt Lemmon got 20”). The last time it snowed on the desert floor here was 2014.

Matt, shoot me over a link to that flow meter, you did before, but I had saved it in our old PM messages. It was on my list of stuff to pick up this spring. Tanks!!

He guys, just a heads up. Woot (which is Amazon) has a killer deal on that meter Matt posted above. $63.00 bucks! ?
@ajw22

Fill-Rite In-Line Digital Meter - $63.43 + $6 standard shipping

That’s a great price. Also, even though the unit is sealed and it says you can’t replace the battery....that’s baloney! Four screws to open it up and then you can replace the Li:Ion cell. It’s a standard Li:ion cell that can be purchased at any Radio Shack Store....oh wait.....ok, Toys R US ....wait, what....ugh, ok then Sears should have it ... DOH!!! :cry:

The unit should arrive pre-loaded with the correction factor for water already programmed in but you might want to check it using a known volume like a 5 gal bucket. The units are primarily designed designed for working with diesel emissions fluid (DEF) and that’s a different factor. You can recalibrate anytime if you think the unit has drifted.

No. It’s one single viscosity factor in the setup menu. You cannot program in multiple factors then select them....it ain’t that fancy for $60
