Hi All,

Getting the "Service System" light on my Pentair Master Temp 400 - could this be because of low propane?

It's reading 20PSI on the gauge - not sure how accurate it is.

Was using heater to heat spa - all of a sudden water was not being heated any longer and Service System light was on.

Thanks
Henry

Usually, backwashing the filter should help.

Did a little troubleshooting to try and narrow down the problem.

The exhaust comes on and the exhaust is hot - so I definitely have propane and it's definitely firing up (although heating light doesn't come on)

There are no service lights that come on but water still coming out luke warm from spa jets

Bottom pipe (outlet) coming out of the heater is slightly warmer than the other pipes - so it seems like water is going into the heater, it's just not being heated.

Any ideas?

is it possible for the exhaust to be hot and the heater to not fire. Something it being burned - that exhaust cover has got to be over 100*

I tried both - from what i read in the manual, the spa or pool mode is only to govern the heater - either one should push hot water out (if set to pool it will stay on longer since it will read the water as still cold)

below are two pics of my setup - yes I know its confusing - I just bought the house

Start it in pool mode and when it starts, press and hold the pool button until the display changes. The display should show the exhaust temperature. See what that shows.

Is the heater a 400hd model?

Are you getting any error codes?

No error codes, it fires up fine - sounds like everything is working..water just coming out luke warm and not heating the spa

yes it's a 400 model - the hottest it got was 303*

is that normal?

Because the water coming into the spa isn't warm/hot/ at all. - I'm dumbfounded. Everything was working fine one day - and all of a sudden the water started coming out lukewarm at best (with the heater on) when hours beforehand it was coming out much warmer.

The Service system light came on -It was late so I shut it down - when I went to go turn it back on (in the morning) to see what was wrong - the service system light is now off, but water still comes out cold.

heater get hot, exhaust is hot enough ( i think)

It's almost as if the heater isn't heating the water to the correct temperature

Are the valves set so that you are getting water only from the spa and returning only to the spa?

Does the heater continue to run with no errors?

Is the heater running continuously but the temperature of the water is not going up even after 15 minutes?

Do you have a water temperature thermometer in the spa?

Does the heater temperature readout match the actual temperature of the water?

Are you trying to run the spa jet pump at the same time?

The way that the spa jet pump is plumbed is not good. If it runs at the same time as the filtration pump, it will block most of the flow coming from the heater.

That could cause the heater to run with improper flow.

You really can't use the jet pump like it is when you're trying to use the filter pump.

Please post current pics of the way your valves are now set. I went through your plumbing with you in another thread. You have complex plumbing and one valve misset can create your problem.

Your heater only works with the black pump. You need to have the valves set to pull water only from the spa and return only to the spa using the black pump to get good heat to it.

Lets go back and review the position of each of your valves as we discussed here Spa Losing Water when Pump is off overnight

I will post a pic of the valve set up in a min -- what gets me is that it was working fine however I had the valves and just stopped pumping out heated water.

The white pump does not run - i never use it and it's never been on.

Is the heater running continuously but the temperature of the water is not going up even after 15 minutes? the temp goes up slightly, but water is not hot enough to get temp up even over 90*

Do you have a water temperature thermometer in the spa? yes, i am going to run it now and drop it in there

Does the heater temperature readout match the actual temperature of the water? no..i set it to 104 (hottest it can go) and it never gets up that high

Are you trying to run the spa jet pump at the same time? no i never use that, i always keep it off
