Howdy Folks.

Got the calcium line or whatever it is on the tile, the white stuff. all around the tile and some of the
rock features. About six months ago we paid this guy to sand blast it off and it worked really well. Pool
installed July 2012. Hopefully nothing got damaged, looks ok though. Question is how can I prevent this from coming back?

second question: I'm in Houston. Lots of sun on pool and hotter than heck. Is CYA at 50 ish really ok? or should it be higher?

Lots of rock features and rock slide.

Put about half a bottle of metal out last night.

Just took pool cover off today and cleaning and shocking.

Current numbers:

cya: 50 ish.
FC: 19.5
PH: 7.3
TA: 80
CH: 300

Thanks as always. You guys rock!

What type of sanitizer? SWG? CL tablets? Liquid CL?

Those numbers from your test kit or pool store?

You will get some calcium at the waterline. You have very dark waterline tile, which accentuates the calcium.

If you wish to keep it not as prominent, then you can use a 4 parts water 1 part muriatic acid solution and a brush to remove the calcium. Use eye and skin protection.

It will take continual action. Your water chemistry is fine. FC a bit high but that is up to you. See [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA]

As for the CYA, 50 is good right now. That's where mine is at as well. However, we're in the middle of a wicked heat wave. Soon we might find ourselves requiring a little more CYA help. But definitely keep it at 50 minimum. If we decide to increase to 60, we simply have to ensure the FC remains balanced to the new CYA as noted on the [FC/CYA].[/FC/CYA].

Thank you for reply. The white deposits at the top of the tile picture number 1, spa, were sand blasted off late last year, around October. Seems to be coming back very quickly.
FC was high because I just opened pool took cover off and shocked. So "metal off" regularly wont help?

I am curious why 'metal off' would reduce calcium buildup. Reducing calcium in your water and reducing evaporation would reduce the calcium buildup. But unless you have a water softener tied to your pool you cannot lower calcium and you will have evaporation in your area.
