TLDR; Unknown 1.5" pipe from pool (any ideas?), recommendation request for SuperFlo vs. IntelliFlo pump (1.5" pipes), and recommendation for SunTouch vs. EasyTouch automation for controlling pump + IntelliChlor (no other automation needs at this time - light and heat pump maybe in several years).
Good Morning All,
Looking for advice on the following plans/options...
My pump went out and I will be replacing it with a completely new one - most likely the variable speed Intelliflow or Superflow. I intend to stay away from the variable flow (VF as opposed to variable speed VS) from things I have read elsewhere on the forums regarding things shutting down or having trouble with the SWG minimum flow requirements.
I intend to also take the opportunity to rework my pipes just a bit. as you can see in the picture below, there are 3 pipes coming from the direction of the pool (all 1.5"), and then the one going into the pump as well as the one going back to the pool have been adapted up to 2" and numerous 90º turns have been thrown in for good measure. My plan is to eliminate a significant number of the turns, put in what would be considered a proper pad, and streamline the setup so there are fewer turns and things tuck back closer to the house. Any ideas on what the middle pipe going to the hand valve might be for (see pic at bottom)? As best I can tell from normal use, the floor drain and only skimmer are merged somewhere before it gets to the pump.
The pool itself was built well before I bought the house, and prior to me moving in (~7 years ago) it looks like they painted it. A replaster is not in the works ($$) so for now I will continue to lived with the worn off paint. My goals are to streamline the amount of space consumed on the side, optimize the piping, and automate the chlorination process due to me travelling at times (and being lazy/forgetful when really busy).
I am looking at adding the IntelliChlor system and pairing it with either the SuperFlo pump or possibly the Intelliflo (overkill due to 1.5" pipes to pool and possibly amperage - previous pump was Challenger 1.5 HP). I am trying to decide whether or not to replace my standard dial timer with a SunTouch timer to control the pump and SWG, or if I should go nuts and add the EasyTouch so I can monitor and control from my phone. The FNS Plus 60 that I have currently has had a leaky push/pull valve, so I plan on replacing it with a multiport when I do all of this.
Is the IntelliFlo overkill since I only have three returns to go with the main drain and single skimmer? Can I hook the SuperFlo VS up to the EasyTouch if I want the ease of automation and remote access/control while travelling? If I can avoid getting an electrician involved that would be nice by just connecting the existing system, but I am not sure if the EasyTouch has higher power requirements or not.
POWER = 220v on 50 AMP circuit
Option 1 -
Pentair 261142 2-Inch HiFlow Valve or Pentair 261152 2-Inch Threaded Multiport Valve
Pentair 342001 SuperFlo VS Variable Speed Pool Pump, 1 1/2 Horsepower
Pentair 520556 IntelliChlor Power Center
Pentair 520555 IntelliChlor IC40 Salt Chlorine Generator Cell
SunTouch Controller - not sure which one I need (maybe these only differ in the bundled accessories?
This post makes me think dealing with the SunTouch may be a pain in the neck...

Option 2 -
Pentair 261142 2-Inch HiFlow Valve or Pentair 261152 2-Inch Threaded Multiport Valve
Pentair 011018 IntelliFlo Variable Speed High Performance Pool Pump, 3 Horsepower

EasyTouch... ??? Note sure which model I need for controlling strictly the SWG and pump (maybe even save $300 and connect a SuperFlo instead if compatible)?
