Looking for cover reel solution for AGP

Hello. I'm looking for suggestions for my summer pool cover. This will be our first summer having the pool since we just put it up in october, so I'm super new to this.

Our 26x15' AGP is partially decked. I'm wanting to get a solar cover and I want a reel to make taking it on/off easier but I'm not sure how this will work since it is only half decked. I don't want to permanently attach the reel and just have to swim underneath it. As you can see from the picture, the other half of the pool is surrounded by dirt, so I don't want to just throw the cover off since it would get dirty.
Ideas please!

That is a tricky situation for mounting a cover reel. Very nicely done deck and pool tho.

The way I see it your choices are to buy a standard cover reel for a 15' wide oval and mount it on the end of the pool with one end of the reel on the deck and the other end supported by a 4x4 post. That option would mean doing something to alter that very nice deck tho.

The other option would be to DIY a cover reel to mount on the long side of the pool. Or you can use an off the shelf cover reel as close to 26' long as you can get and mount it on posts on the opposite side of the deck. You may need to fold the ends of the cover over on itself before rolling it up if you end up with a reel less that 26' wide.

I have to pull my cover around that corner of my deck when it goes on and off. It works though and makes it easy to keep the cover on and the pool warm. The cover stays clean and out of the way while we are swimming.

I am in the same situation since pool build.
I am really tired of having to bunch the cover up on deck and then have to figure out the top and drag a wet cover and try to align, mostly by myself. I ran across this late last year and now wondering about it again.
Solar Cover Reel, SOLAR ROLLER ® on Amazon - Rolls in 15 Seconds! +2500 SOLD - Extends Life of Pool Cover
Mixed reviews, love it or hate it and most complain about some clips breaking and pipe splitting.
Does anyone reading this have one or know of a person that does?

Thanks for the suggestions. Do you just manually pull your cover off? I didn't see a cover reel. I've never actually taken a cover off on my own, but people describe it as a pain without a reel.
Your deck looks nice too! How do you like the deck being over the top rail of the pool?

Thanks, rajung, for the suggestion. This looks interesting and I'm curious to see what others say. The problem with this is that you still have to put the cover on the deck, something I am trying to avoid...

On the far side of the pool there is a white bar going across the top of the pool that is the cover on a reel, in the picture with the cover on you can see faint orange strapping going from the cover to the reel. This is a better shot of the reel before the deck was done.

I'm happy with the deck over the rail its a great way for the kids to jump in the pool and I don't have to worry about then walking and jumping on the top rail. There is also no raised edge to trip on when going in the pool. The main reason it is on top of the rail though was that stupid hill behind the pool. I had to make the deck higher to get the width I wanted. There's 2 retaining walls on that hill, one under the deck and the one you see behind it. I'm very happy with how it turned out and I think it blends in with the property but it was a lot of back breaking work.

I have a beaded liner so when it's time to change the liner I don't have to pull the top rails of the pool. I theory I should be able to get those rails off if I had to tho.

My "neighbor" (about 1/3rd of a mile to the North) has almost the exact same configuration as what's shown there. They fold / roll theirs up and then hang it on a set of 4 very large hooks they bought and mounted along the outside edge of their deck railing. Wind is not our friend many times out in the boonies where we are, so they are looking to get something like I have on mine, which is an older Odyssey reel with the 2 stands/inserts that are mounted on my top rail. I can lift one side of mine out of the insert and pivot it about 75-80 degrees out of the way of MOST of the swimming area. If we are going to be in it a lengthy time or the temps allow us to leave it off for a good bit (rare here in WI) we will lift the whole thing out and move aside. I took the liberty of printing and sketching how that would have to work. Assuming you'd want to put the reel inserts on each end with solar cover running the long way thru the middle - for a variety of reasons. Note the direction of the far end of the reel lifting out of the insert and swinging away from the deck. You can support that end out there with some brace (like I did for 2 years) to get it fully out of the way without lifting it out and off, or you can move that end 7-8' and rest it on the pool rail and put back when finished swimming. pool help2.jpg Using something similar to this as the temp brace. Unsightly, but practical. (Mine was on wheels) pool help3.gif

I was attempting to describe what canned heat so kindly drew a picture of. The difference being that mine is mounted to the posts outside of the pool and not on the pool top rails at any time. You can attach straps to the cover and to the reel and the straps will pull the cover off the pool and onto the rail. When I put the cover on I simply pull it off the reel and walk it across the pool then get out of the pool. It makes it super easy to keep the pool covered and keep it warm.

Good morning I saw this item I was looking into for a 21ft above ground round pool I was gonna install them on top of 2 4x4x8 I just don't know what type of tube to use to roll up the cover so it won't sag Being that it's gonna be 21ftlong ant help on this?

I'm not sure where you found the roller ends but they are probably designed to work with a specific bar. Any chance you can get the installation instructions for them or did they have the bars listed as another part?

Well it was a lot I saw it without the bar haven't ordered it but it says tube is 3inch they sell aluminum tube for 100 can't I get a 3inch pvc tube I mean I'm not looking to spend alot of money on this out wanted something diy

I looks like the socket on the handle is designed for a specific bar. My guess is its a adjustable length extruded aluminum tube with an octagonal shape. A simple round pipe like 3 inch PVC wouldn't be rigid enough for an unsupported 21 foot span. Not to mention 3" PVC isn't all that cheap. Last time I got some it was $20 for a 10foot piece.
