Leak at Filter

I have a leak on the pipe to the pool right where the fitting screws into the filter. Based on what I have read so far, need to take it apart and try resealing using RectorSeal T Plus 2. RectorSeal T Plus 2 4 oz. Teflon Pipe-Thread Sealant-23631 - The Home Depot. Luckily I do have couplings for all the piping going to and from the filter. So my question is, can I just undo the coupling on the pipe that is leaking and get it out so that I can reseal or do I have to completely disconnect the filter so I can get the fitting/pipe out of the filter to reseal?
Thanks

That is what I was afraid of. Thoughts on the sealant, is that the right thing to use? Use Teflon tape or not, I have seen it recommended and recommended not to use it. And should I do anything else while I have it disconnected? Seems to filter fine, water is totally clear. But I have never opened it up to do a deep clean or check sand levels.

And to undo the couplings, just use a strap wrench to undo?
