New Build Completed!, Spring TX by PB.

Re: Under construction, Spring TX by PB.

Check you plaster's guide lines and see what they say. You should be able to find that online.

I have heard as many as 3 times a day and as little as no brushing needed. I would brush at least twice a day until you don't see any plaster dust come off the walls.

Re: Under construction, Spring TX by PB.

I posted this in the pool chemistry area but thought I'd put it here too

First test in our new pool. I was on a trip and not here for start up. The pump was run for 48 hrs straight starting on Wednesday and is now on for 8 hours a day.

I ran the app but want to make sure to add chemicals in the right order. So far the pool builder I believe has only added 1 gal of acid. There are Chlor tabs in the clorinator but that is getting shut off now that I've taken control. Pools still cloudy.

So how should I start. PB recommended shocking it but it being a new plaster pool I want to do this right.

I have the TF-100 kit

FC - 5
CC - 0
ph - 7.8
TA - 180
CH - 75
CYA - 50 (I think I didn't read this one right)
water temp 90 F
CSI 0.01

Re: Under construction, Spring TX by PB.

Do you think the cloudiness is from the new plaster? Does it clear up at all if you have not brushed in a while?

Here the order of importance:

FC
PH
CYA
CH
TA

Here is my help for the CYA test-GLANCE in the tube only. Don't look for the dot. Pour to the first line (100), GLANCE in the tube. If you see the dot pour to the next line, GLANCE in, keep going until you don't see the dot when you GLANCE in the tube. Call it at that line.

Let me know if this helps.

Re: Under construction, Spring TX by PB.

Hi. First of all your pool is Gorgeous! I love the glass in the spa. As well as the whole design blends perfectly with your house. What a nice pool view out your window. My husband sent me to your thread. He was the one who stated the thread asking if anyone had the magic bowls installed yet. So I came to check out how the bowls looked. Amazing you must be so happy. For us we chose these bowls over fire for cost reasons. Being from NY everything is so much more $$$ so did not want to put in a gas line. I was so nervous about how they were going to look. Now I am relieved and happy we got them. There sitting in the garage for now. I watched all your videos and love the sound the water is making. We have the same kind of design a wall with two bowls on ends and shear decent in the middle. It is one thing to see the manufactures pics and video but another to see in someones pool. We had in our first design a spillover spa into the pool facing the bowls. Like your spa sitting in spa facing the bowls great view. Unfortunately my husband wanted to change the design. Spa is now separate so we can use it more of the year then just a few months in the summer. I think we will be missing out on looking at fire bowls like your spa but it is what it is. Well congrats and enjoy! Everything looks Awesome!!

Re: Under construction, Spring TX by PB.

After adding acid and chlorine last night. Here are today's numbers.

FC 6
PH 7.6
CYA 50
CH 75
TA 130

shoukd I be concerned about the calcium hardness? Or do I wait a few weeks and test again since its a new pool? It's definately low.

Re: Under construction, Spring TX by PB.

After adding the calcium hydrate I was able to extrapolate a better pool volume. It's closer to 20k gallons. When I added the last 7lbs the CH went up as expected for an 18k pool. Had it been closer to 22k the CH would have been lower.

New numbers after adding more acid and chlorine. The CC was one drop but it was very light pink. Also we haven't had any sun for 2 days. I'll keep an eye on it. As expected the pool is taking a lot of acid right now but is almost clear. When I brush there is very little plaster dust coming off the walls.

FC 6.5
CC .5

PH 7.2
CYA 50 (did not retest)
CH 275
TA 90
Temp 87

Re: Under construction, Spring TX by PB.

Now THAT is the pic I was waiting for! LOVE it!!!

Thanks Kim

I've got the PH somewhat stable now. 3 days and only a .2 drift. FC has been all over the place. On the 6th it dipped to .5 raised it back to 6.5 and then it dipped to 1.6. Yesterday I raised it to 9. Did the overnight test and it remained at 9 (filter was off all night). The pool is crystal clear. A comment was made I can see the drain from inside today. Tonight its 6.5 but we had a full day of sun. When I brushed this morning there was very little plaster dust visible.

Tonights numbers

FC 6.5
CC .2
PH 7.3
CYA 35 (still nailing this test down but it disappears right in the middle of 40-30)
CH 275
TA 80

I'm going to bring it back to FC of nine after the sun goes down. Should I leave the filter on overnight this time? Do I need to even be concerned yet. The pools week Birthday is tomorrow.

Re: Under construction, Spring TX by PB.

That is some clear water! Sweet!

Call your CYA 40 and dose FC from there. With you being in TX I would think about pushing your CYA up to 50 or even 60 as your sun is HOT and bright. That will help your FC hold during the day. Of course you will need to get and keep the FC a little higher. Use the FC/CYA chart and keep it towards the top.
