Pool was finally filled today. Started up pump and filter and added chlorine and 2 lbs. of stabilizer so far. Waited 2 hours and took test

FC. 5
TC. O
PH. 7.5
CH. 325
TA. 240
CYA 10 (2 lbs. in sock still dissolving. Need to add 4 more lbs to get to 40 for now.

I will be adding salt for SWCG in a couple of days. THOUGHTS?

Keep an eye on pH, with a TA that high I wouldn't be surprised to see it rise rather quickly. Once your SWG is up and running it might go even quicker. With a vinyl pool you don't "worry" about TA you lower it to a point where pH doesn't rise faster than you can manage it. Just use muriatic acid to lower pH and TA, let pH rise naturally and eventually you'll get into a rhythm and "know" how much acid your pool needs each day or 3. More info in the how to lower TA section of pool school.

Thanks for the tips. Tested last night at 8:00pm for the above readings. Tested when I got home from work today at 3:30.

FC 2.5
ph 7.8

CYA 0

Added 56 oz. of 12.5% chlorine. Not sure why reading was so high. added 4 more lbs. of cya. Once all mixes that will be 6 lbs.

Tested again at 8:30. Did not add anything since the last test. Results

FC. 14 (no idea how it went up and how it got that high... thoughts?)
CC. 0
PH 7.8
CH. 325
TA. Faulty reading I am pretty sure. I will retest all again in the morning.
CYA still 0.... I know this can take time but after adding 2 lbs. last night, I should have seen at least 10....

thoughts??

Your test kit can not reliably measure CYA under 20. You need to raise your CYA to above that to read it.

Take care.
