Jandy service codes 180 & 172

Folks -
I'm showing a 172 and 180 service code on my Jandy Aquapure and it doesn't appear to be generating chlorine.

I checked the manual and 180 means the flow/temp sensor is not working (this also generates the 172 code).

Do I have to replace the sensor or can I clean it somwhow to bring it back to life?

Thanks !
Bart

Re: Jandy service codes 180 & 172

One more thing. I replaced the cell a year or two go. I didn't install this wire because I didn't know what it was for.

Do I need to do something with it?

Edit: I can't seem to add a pic to my post, but the wire thing had a male connection on one end and a female on the other. There are 8 colored wires going from end to end, and it's about a foot long.

I had to go to the full site to post a photo so here it is.

The error code is for the sensor or PIB board.

Google "how to test jandy flow sensor" and a link to inyopools should come up. They have a full troubleshooting manual on what steps to take to determine if it is the sensor or PIB.

Which tri-sensor is it? If the sensor is bad make sure you get the latest one which has an A or B program option. This sensor solves Jandy's issues they have had with the old sensor designs.

Thanks ping!

I worked through the flow chart on the inyopools guide and I ended up on: Conduct self tested flow salinity sensor using the front board test circuits"

My only problem is I'm not sure how to do that and I don't see it in the guide. Any ideas?

Also in your message above, you mention PIB. What does that stand for? I also don't understand the question of "which trip sensor is it?" I'm further confused by the "A or B" program. Can you educate me a little?

Thanks!!

Here is the best link for troubleshooting which includes pictures, https://premium.zodiacpoolsystems.com/~/media/5e517452be9c402b9aef35ce3d54eb51.pdf.

There is only one sensor and it's referred as a tri-sensor as it is detecting flow, temperature, and salinity. I'll go back and forth calling it a tri-sensor or sensor for the Jandy SWG's, I'm always referring to the same sensor.

I'm guessing have an old style sensor since you don't understand the A or B question. With the latest sensor design there is a requirement to select the A or B program on the sensor. Most units run on the B program.

Most likely the sensor needs to be replaced, if it does make sure you get the latest one that is in the above link.

Thanks ping and sorry for the late response.

So the sensor/tri-sensor is the little hockey puck looking thing in the bottom of the SWG cell? Got it. At first I thought it something in the electrical box with the circuit boards.

I'll post some pics I took last weekend of the board. If they don't show what you need to see I can take some more tomorrow when I'm at the pool

Thanks!

I ordered and received an new tri-sensor but I'm a little concerned it won't fit into the salt cell. Hopefully I'm just being paranoid, but I'm looking for some reassurance.

The new sensor has 1 "prong" on one side that slides into a corresponding slot on the SWG cell. It also has 2 "prongs" on the opposite side of the sensor that (I assume) will fit into corresponding slots on the SWG cell. My concern is that my recollection of my current sensor is that it only has one prong on one side, and not three prongs like the new sensor. Is that possible? They wouldn't make a new sensor that doesn't fit into an old (~2 years) cell, would they?!?!? Am I just being paranoid?!?!?

As an aside, my old sensor just had a plain wire going from the sensor to the control panel. The new sensor has a built in controller between the sensor and the control panel.

(My pool is not where I live and I just got the new sensor yesterday. I'll know this weekend if the new sensor fits into the old cell, but I was just looking for some reassurance)

Here's a photo of the new sensor with the 3 "prongs" visible.

Thanks!

This is what my current sensor looks like so I think I'm screwed. My memory says the prong or tab on my current sensor was very low, much lower than in the above photo. My memory matches the photo below.

Do I have to try to locate an old sensor somewhere or do I have to buy a new cell too?

Thanks!

Its funny I thought the same thing to myself when I went to switch from the old style to the new style a few months back. It will fit though.
