    Sediment/Crystals on pool bottom

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. It looks very similar to what I had. I believe I had what you have and another type of deposit also that was more elongated crystal like. Both were there the first year and there was quite a lot of it. The next year it was considerably less. The crystal deposit...

    SWG vs Bleach

We tend to also have a high chlorine demand because of not putting our cover on (it's a pain in the butt) and being in direct sun most of the day. Hopefully raising the CYA this year will help even if we don't get a SWG this season. I'm just worried that we'll get a generator and it won't be...

    SWG vs Bleach

All of this input is great, thanks. Back to one of my original questions: 1 jug of bleach = how many pounds of chlorine? Most of the specs on the generators have pounds/day and I wanted to know how many jugs that would be in comparison.

    SWG vs Bleach

Two things I just thought of and was curious about: When swimming in a SWG pool does a person notice the salt water when opening their eyes underwater? I, as well as my 5 y/o, do it all of the time in the pool without problem now. Also, the cell produces chlorine when the pump is running, I...

    SWG vs Bleach

Great.... Playing with the TA was my next thing to do for the pH, I guess I'll have to be a little more aggressive with that this year. As far as the pump: I assume that a VS would be the best and 2 speed adequate? Probably comes down to cost, but if I'm going to buy one will I be disappointed...

    SWG vs Bleach

Thanks for all of the input. My CYA is usually around 40-50 so it may help to raise that, and if I'm not mistaken I'll have to have my FC higher to account for the CYA also, to have remain effective? As far as the pump, that's one of the things that I was looking at too. I figured I might have...

    SWG vs Bleach

I've been using bleach since I've had my pool for the past 3 summers and haven't had any problems. I'm considering installing a SWG to automate the process a little, of adding chlorine. During the summer I will at times put in 1 jug (121 oz) daily, sometimes a little more, to keep my FC levels...

    Sediment/Crystals on pool bottom

A little more info: after putting it in the hot water the crystals seem to have dissolved but don't appear to be going into solution. If I stir the water it becomes milky when I leave it set, it clears and the fine sediment settles to the bottom. Kind of like the consistency of DE. See pics...

    Sediment/Crystals on pool bottom

Thanks for all of the input. I don't have any Muriatic on hand but I tried some vinegar; it bubbles and dissolves the crystals. I'll be getting some Muriatic and will try that if necessary. Not sure if our water contains alot of sulphates, how would I tell or find out. As far as the acid I...

    Sediment/Crystals on pool bottom

Last year was the first year of the pool, had it installed the fall before. Followed the methods of this site for treatment, nothing out of the ordinary, (bleach, borax, acid) were my biggest additions. The test results were good all season; the only issue I had was keeping the pH down. The...

    Sediment/Crystals on pool bottom

During the winter I noticed a lot of sediment on the bottom of the pool; it was deep enough in places so that when critters were squirming it would leave tracks. I'm in the process of opening and notice that my auto pool bottom cleaner (my 3yo calls it "the dude") if filling up with this white...

    Brown/Black Stains

I'll see about getting the water tested for iron. It was originally filled last fall by a water truck that got the water from a city water hydrant. I ended up having to put in about 1000 gallons from our well this spring.

    Brown/Black Stains

Just got the vit c tablets... They took the stain off.... Wow! I just reached over the side and rubbed the tabs like an eraser and they just erased the stains. I couldn't believe it came off so easy. Adjusted the pH also after, down to about 7.4-7.5 Thanks!!
