The worst thing that could happen with an oversized pump is risk of entrapment at the suction port or wasting electricity. You could run the pump on a timer and make sure theres a good screen/skimmer/prefilter on the suction tube to reduce risk of entrapment. Heck, I run a 2500gph filter on my...

I'd try turning the pump/motor over by hand with the pump off (obviously lol) to check the bearings and such. You could maybe try wiggling the impeller side to side also..to check for play in the bearings.

I have a used 2000gph intex cartridge filter/pump I could sell you cheap. I'm not sure if thats big enough for your needs though.

Well I figured out PM has a thing at the bottom for chemical effects. Supposedly 1.5oz of trichlor will raise my CYA to 6.2. I'd still like to know if I have to about double that since my bag of granules says 53.5% trichlor. Is pool math calculating for 100% trichlor?
