    High use weekend

Thanks guys, that is kind of what I was thinking as well, but a search left me empty and I don't think I had stumbled upon anybody asking about a high volume weekend. I have been having pretty good luck at keeping my chlorine at 7PPM even after being away a couple days and I have never noticed...

    Very high CYA level questions

I was in a very similar situation and am located close to St. Louis. I had a very high CYA level (I think around 250 or something) when I opened up the pool this spring. First time pool owner with the purchase of a new home. The pool had been "professionaly" maintained which I am assuming that...

    High use weekend

It is my 30th birthday today and my wife and I are celebrating by having pool parties on both Saturday and Sunday with we assume a decent amount of people getting in the pool. This site has been perfect with all of the recommended chemical levels and other advice and the water has been in...

    Clarifier, or add DE/Sand?

That is what I was thinking. I am assuming that since the clarifier works so well then it doesn't have anything to do with the chemical levels in the pool and has more to do with my filter. Another thing is that I use a barracuda G3 cleaner and I was told to always backwash after using it. I...

    Clarifier, or add DE/Sand?

I have all my levels just about perfect and fairly stable (I add about a gallon of 6% chlorine every 2 days). One thing however is that after about 3 weeks of swimming in the pool and lots of rain the water gets cloudy. I know that the site says not to add clarifier (anything extra), but I added...

    purchased house with fiberglass pool

I retested again and came with similar results to last time. Temp - 60F FC - 8.0 PH - 7.8 TA - 170 CH - 90 CYA - Assuming still at around 80 Thanks a lot! After reading pool school for like the 5th time and trying to figure out my android app Pool Pal it is starting to make sense. It was...

    purchased house with fiberglass pool

Temp - 60F FC - 2.0 PH - 7.6 TA - 170 CH - 80 CYA - 80 So after draining a couple feet and filling repeatedly I am at the point of a decent CYA level at 80. I am not planning on using the trichlor pucks and hopefully with rain and eventual splashout over time the CYA level will start to drop to...

    purchased house with fiberglass pool

Thanks for the advice! I am definitely concerned about that. So far it looks like it drained about a foot over 12 hours last night (7PM to 7AM) from siphoning, so I am planning on letting it siphon another foot during the day so that it has about a foot in the shallow end and start filling it up...

    purchased house with fiberglass pool

With it facing the center pipe like in the picture, the skimmer works. With it facing down, the skimmer works. With it facing up, water doesn't flow.

    purchased house with fiberglass pool

The Jandy 3 way valve that I have has the skimmer pulling in water in two of the positions, but in the third position water does not flow. It appears that this valve does not have an "off" it just switches from either skimmer, skimmer/ main drain, and main drain. Does this sound right? So this...

Updated signature. I will have to see what contols what with the valve. In two positions the skimmer was bringing in water and in one of the positions water was not flowing through the pump. This position was with the handle straight in line with the "U" loop. Also in that attached is a...
