I have decided to replace my pump with a Pentair IntelliFlo3 VSF 3.0. There is a reputable online retailer (1600 google reviews, 4.8 average) that will sell me the pump for $1600. I am waiting on additional local dealer quotes but so far have one at $3000, apples to apples, no install...

The pump is a Jandy PHPF2.0

DIgging deeper, it seems like the shaft is warped. The rotating body connecting to the motor has a warped movement.

Spoke too soon. The pump was making a lot of noise again. I took the backplate and motor off. It seems like the diffuser is rotating for some reason. Looking at a schematic it doesn't seem like there is hardware that keeps it in place? It just sets in there. Does that sound right? Thanks

I figured it out. Took the pump apart and found a screw had been sucked in. Up and running again.
