    The more things change....

Marty, thanks but it's a 150 dollar pool whose water will barely clear my kneecaps...so I'm using the cheapest. simplest testing route available. But regardless, the post wasn't about test kit quality, it was to highlight the fact that the same basic test kits have not changed in 50 years. I...

Soake Pools: Precast cement/tile pools out of NH. Any experience?

Somehow I ended up talking with someone who was considering the pool. The resource had gone as far as getting a full quote from Soake. Her pool was a bit customized, but all in Soake price was in the same ballpark as a full custom gunite install. Just food for thought.

    The more things change....

Today's chuckle: So, I finally found an above ground pool size that fits within my town's pool guidelines...an Intex 10'x30" pool (basically only baby pools allowed) :). So, when I ordered the pool tonight, I knew enough to avoid buying the complete pool package so I could get a better...

Soake Pools: Precast cement/tile pools out of NH. Any experience?

Isn't it, though? How many homes are prefab and/or have prefab roof trusses? If the quality is there (and you like the size), it's almost a no brainer, IMHO. When the time is right, I may need to road trip back to NE to see some of these in person. :)

Soake Pools: Precast cement/tile pools out of NH. Any experience?

Headbanger, thank you for this. Very helpful. I asked them a series of questions and their responses are quite reassuring: Use of rebar for structural integrity? "Yes, we do. Our pools have a more complex rebar grid than typical pools. Our designs have approval from engineering firms" Why a...

Soake Pools: Precast cement/tile pools out of NH. Any experience?

Well, have an offer on a house, and the yard might fit a plunge pool rather nicely. I like deep pools (for endless wave style swimming)....and in such a small pool I don't want a lot of steps or ledges. I had been focused on fiberglass, but ran across an interesting concept: Precast cement/tile...

Toronto new pool question - Vinyl vs Fiberglass - Looking for responses from fiberglass owners of 5-15 years

Fiberglass boats have been around since the early 1960s. Many Bertrams from that era are still around. When the gelcoat gets chalky or blistered, you can resurface. Have to assume it's very similar. What's important is the thickness and quality of the gelcoat. And, the cool thing is, if you need...

Considering buying a house that I think had a pool at one point...how to approach

How does one look at Google Earth history? NVMR, found it. Well if the pool was removed/filled in, it was 15+ years ago. So, let's say it's not on a permit and there is no way of knowing exact size/shape/method of removal. Does one just start digging and 'ooops finding a wall here'...there...

Considering buying a house that I think had a pool at one point...how to approach

Have my eye on a nice fixer upper that has a yard big enough for a pool (inground only in this fancy neighborhood). Looking thru the old city tax files, it looks like a permit was pulled (don't know when) for a pool install. There is certainly no pool there now. How the heck to I approach...

    Fiberglass: Small and Deep?

Got it. 30 feet it is. Now to find a 30 feet fiberglass pool that's 8 foot deep. :)

    Fiberglass: Small and Deep?

So, here's another headscratcher. Anyone have a small fiberglass pool that's deep enough for a diving board? 8+ feet? Likely looking at houses with less than 1/2 an acre of land and there are no kiddos, so I'd prefer small and deep with a Fastlane (current to swim against). I can't find a...

Pool Dreaming...fiberglass pool with specific design criteria

Hi I grew up with an inground pool and would love to add one to my home. Thinking fiberglass (dog, like smooth walls) and want a pool that: -At least 40 feet (former competitive swimmer) want to do laps -Swim lane (need open wall space, at least 4 feet deep) on either end of pool -Pool with...
