We have a main drain on the bottom of the pool. Thats why pump needs to run. Does that make a difference?

We are new to the pool closing. We need to know in an area that freezes at night only typically, should we close the pool or keep the pump and filter running t all times? We are confused because pool guys have said different things. We have the gizmo in pool skimmer, lowered water below...
