    Mustard Algae!

Just wanted to let you all know that you are all wonderful. ::hearts:: The pool is wonderful. No return of the algae. It stays clear and truly is trouble-free. :-D I just check it occasionally and add bleach here and there.

Thanks so much, Chem Geek. So far, so good. No algae yet. Hopefully it does stay away.

    Mustard Algae!

Sorry it took so long for an update; I have been really busy recently. I am pleased to report that I do believe the mustard algae is gone! :punkrock:  :whoot: One warning about the Intex pools, though. The water line in our pool is currently about an inch below the...

    Mustard Algae!

Rounding up day #2 at shock level. I cleaned my filter cartridge today. Oy. The water around the filter was more clean, but the filter was much more brown. In the bottom of the cartridge area, there was a lot of fine, black dust. Is this all the dead algae? Also, should I replace the...

    Smoking Pool?

Oh, okay. Yay! :-D At least I know it is not going to as'plode or anything. I have a solar cover, but I am shocking. Going to toss it on the pool here in a bit.

    Smoking Pool?

 It is 6 a.m. and about 45 degrees outside this morning. There is a smoke/fog continually rolling off the pool. Is this normal? I shocked up to 30 ppm to kill some mustard algae last night. My pool is not going to explode or anything, is it? Please tell me this is...

    Mustard Algae!

I have another question. Should I vacuum every morning while holding at shock level? I also figured I better toss the toys and dip the floats in the pool while shocking as well, but what about the solar cover?

Thank you so much for all your help and support. The pH is down to 7.2 and is ready to go. :-D I will begin to shock tonight. I can't wait to post about how the algae is gone, gone, gone.

    Hit With Muriatic Acid Fumes

Ewwwww. The stuff is pure evil, IMO, but it works so well in the pool that I deal with it.  I had to add some to the pool this morning, and I held my breath the entire time. As soon as I opened the bottle, the cloud escaped and floated about. Ick. The last bottle I had did not...

    Hit With Muriatic Acid Fumes

Here is a question. Where/how do you store MA during the winter? I really don't like the thought of it anywhere in my home.

    Mustard Algae!

The vacuum hose and head as well as the surface skimmer head, I take it? How would I go about doing that? I assume that just hosing them off will not be enough. Should I submerge them in the pool while it is shocking after I brush the floor and walls? I will be so glad to be rid of...

    Mustard Algae!

Oh, I also want to mention that IRL, the algae has more of a yellow-brown tint. It appears black-ish in the photos, which is not really true to what I actually see.

    Mustard Algae!

Will do, and I will let you know how it goes. Ruh-oh. That means I have to use the dreaded muriatic acid. OH, how I wish I could train hubby to do that bit for me. :whip:
