Ah, that makes sense. I had the SWCG set low because it was producing way too much FC last I checked a month ago. Then I just stopped testing. CYA showed around 70 tonight, but I tested using light instead of the sun so it may not be accurate. Going to re-test tomorrow. I'll do an OCLT tomorrow...

Got lazy the last month and haven't been testing as frequently as I was previously. Water looks great, but tested tonight and FC was between 0 and 0.5. I added Liquid Chlorine to increase quickly, but do I need to SLAM if water looks good?

So, I think my suspicion about DE leaking back into the pool with the torn filter was not actually the cause of the cloudy water. I know the filter was torn and needed to be replaced, but I think the DE filter (understandably) was just better about clearing the water even though there was still...

I had a Hayward DE filter that I believe had some torn fingers. When I put stabilizer in the pool it was coming right back out of the returns. I backwashed and fully cleaned the filter and put in new DE and then the water turned cloudy, leading me to believe DE was leaking back into the pool...

I’ll definitely do that. Why do I have these problems when maintaining normal water parameters though? I always see people say that they keep parameters in check and never have problems but seems like I consistently have issues when parameters are perfect. Is that normal?

Testing my water for an OCLT this morning. First reading was 26, exactly 1 less than last night indicating I’m done SLAMing. Realized I forgot to test CC so I performed the test again immediately after using the same water sample from the pool. This time the FC came back at 22. Tested a third...

Tested again tonight, 24 hours later and FC is up to 4.5. Will keep an eye on it to see if it stays pretty consistent. Thanks again!

I really appreciate your help and insight! My SWG has been set at 30% for the last 4 days and FC was only 0.5 today, so that still seems off, no? I have it set at 48% now to make 4ppm FC/day. I guess we’ll see how it levels out over the next few days. I just don’t understand why FC tested so...

That makes sense. It’s just really odd because when my SWCG was set much lower my FC was higher. That’s why I reduced it. Now it’s almost 3 times higher and may only barely keep up. Just seems weird.

I used this (see attached). I was advised that my screen enclosure warranted setting it at 2.5. I’m going to raise it to 4ppm/day now to see how it does.

I guess my main concern is that I almost doubled my SWCG % and Chlorine isn’t any higher even though CYA hasn’t gone down that much. Is that normal? I just had to add liquid chlorine to get it closer to normal a few days ago before I increased SWCG %. It’s set at producing 2.5 ppm FC/day right now.

The 80 was half a day after I added 6.7oz. of stabilizer so I wouldn’t think that was an anomaly, right?

Oops! Same way I got 75 before. Ok. That means last time was 80 and this time was 70. I’ll correct the logs.
