    Trouble with free chlorine loss

Not sure if it helped or hurt but about the time I got the pool to behave I had ignored the pool for about a week, Ph climbed to about 8.4 (probably over that from rain aeration) and FC dropped to nothing for about 6 days. I then dumped in 2 gallons to bring it up to 20ppm and thats when it...

    Trouble with free chlorine loss

Haven't posted in a while but I seem to have it beat. Put 2 gallons in Thursday morning brought it up to 20ppm, tested again Friday night and it was around 12ppm Tested Sunday morning it was at 5 and tested this morning it was at 3ppm. Tonight I'm doing official oclt and then adding salt for...

    Trouble with free chlorine loss

The ladder has an open backside. We used it for a week last year before pulling it out. It sat in the rain/snow/sun all winter just hanging over the edge of the deck. I sprayed the dirt off of it before I put it in this year. I've been super busy, I want to pull the ladder and cover the do an...

    Trouble with free chlorine loss

I picked up an ammonia test and it tested zero so that's not the problem. Chem geek, is there any materials like plastics or rubbers that could eat up chlorine? I haven't had a chance to try it without the cover on it but I wonder if that could cause issues. The other thought is that during...

    Trouble with free chlorine loss

I have been on vacation for a week but while I was gone I had my mom test and add chlorine once a day. She was adding 2 gallons every night to bring FC up to 20ppm and it is still dropping a lot overnight. From 8pm last night till 10:30 today (very overcast and rainy) it lost 14 pom.

    Trouble with free chlorine loss

So far I've only added a ton of liquid chlorine, 4lbs soda ash, 4lbs baking soda, and 4lbs cya. No other pool chemicals were used.

    Trouble with free chlorine loss

No lights, the only 2 things in pool are the ladder which was in the pool when I passed the oclt during baquacil conversion and a cover which is a unrecognized blue bubble cover. I don't see any obvious signs of the cover degrading. 6/16 I tested FC at 13ppm around 10:30 pm. 6/17 at 6:15 am...

    Trouble with free chlorine loss

5/26 is when I started the conversion. Are there any other possible chemicals that might react with the chlorine? I tried aquafinesse pucks shortly before converting to get rid of white mold.

    Trouble with free chlorine loss

Recently converted from baquacil and had passed all tests to finish conversion. Replaced sand and added CYA. Over the next week the pool began using chlorine extremely excessively. Went from 1/2 gallon a day to now about 2-3 gallons a day. Ph 7.2 Cya 40 alk 140 calcium 160 For the last week I...

    Another Baquacil conversion

Well kept fc over 10 for a couple days and its not any better. Added a gallon last night and it was at 0 when I checked it at 10am, added another gallon and its only at .2ppm now at 2:30.

    Another Baquacil conversion

It has a cheap intex blue bubble cover but it is about 4 feet too small for the pool. It was the only thing that was easily attainable locally. In the future I'd like to find a nicer cover but my mother needs to be able to pull it off by herself and this is about as big as she can handle. I salt...

    Another Baquacil conversion

Another speed bump, had my OCLT down to 1 and added 4 lbs of cya to bring pom up to 40. Everything went well for a couple days and now its taking a gallon a day to keep up with chlorine loss. Ran another OCLT last night and I lost 6ppm overnight. Still 0ppm CC. I am guessing some of the pool...

    Another Baquacil conversion

Over the weekend I got into the pool and stirred it all up, swept it, backflushed and then brought my FC up to 15 again for saturday night and sunday night. Monday morning I added chlorine again to bring it up to 15 and checked it when I got home. The FC at 10 pm was 5, when I woke up this...

    Another Baquacil conversion

I get home around 7 test and add chlorine then retest at 10pm to get a starting number, I then test again at 6:45 when I leave for work. It is daylight out but because I live in a heavily wooded valley there is no direct sunlight.

    Another Baquacil conversion

Thanks for the tip. The pool is a pretty plain pool. No lights, no water features, no deep or shallow, and I don't have the ladder in at the moment. I have been brushing it periodically though. Going by the pool school how to, It says to wait for the overnight free chlorine loss test to be less...
