    prime pump

It can also be helpful to close your return valves (if you have any of these before the pump) and slowly open them on at a time. That is, start with one 1/2 open, then as water starts flowing well open it all the way, then once the pump catches up, open the 2nd 1/2 way, then all the way, etc...

Cost per hour of pressure side cleaner (boost pump) vs. electric robot

I guess I got lucky. Thank goodness because I really like this pump because it's quiet and cheaper to run

Cost per hour of pressure side cleaner (boost pump) vs. electric robot

I have had a PBSQ4 for 7-ish years, and I'm very happy with it. 0 problems, no odd noises or leaks. It's quiet and lives up to its 30% improved efficiency. When I bought it, there were no reviews, but a lot of bad reviews for standard booster pumps so it seemed worth a try. Obviously, a...

    DE in sand filtr

Nice pool! With a CYA of 80, you might want to increase your Chlorine to 6 as the pool calculator says 4 is minimum and 6 is target. Also, I assume you measured these yourself vs. a pool store.

    DE in sand filtr

Anyone considering changing out their sand should first perform a "deep clean" (see sticky link at the top of the forum). Sand doesn't wear out, but it can get gunky from additives like clarifiers and other pool store snake oil. However, I had great success with a deep clean, and it should be...

    Vsp in for the winter?

Note: I wasn't questioning whether the Hayward manual said this, but rather noting that I had not seen similar content in the Jandy manual. Regardless, thanks for posting that screen shot which inspired me to search the Jandy documentation. What do you know, but Jandy also recommends...

    Vsp in for the winter?

I have a Jandy VSP and leave it out all winter here in Chicago. It's about 5 years old and no problems yet. I do drain it very well, remove the plugs and plug the input pipe from the pool (standard pool closing stuff). I don't recall reading anything like what you describe in the manual. It...

    Sand Filter Questions

The water level shouldn't have anything to do with the filter pressure. Maybe the storm blew a lot of debris into your pool and it filled up the skimmer baskets?

Polaris 360 - Is water leaking around jet retainers of water management system normal

I would say it's a matter of how much water is leaking. Anything above a trickle is probably a problem. Then again, is it working ok? In my book, if something is working, it's not broken. 😁

To robot or not to robot?

If you don't mind vacuuming, don't buy a robot. They are a rather expensive and may only last 5 years (give or take). It's up to you how much your time and effort are worth. Many swear by them, others not so much. About running the pump day vs. night, since you're using pucks, you need to...

    So this just happened....

Polaris does sell a more energy efficient booster pump. The PB4SQ. I have one, it is both quiet and ~30% more efficient than their standard booster pump. Not as cheap as a robot, but I'm now past my 5th year with it so hopefully not as "consumable" as a robot.

    Polaris customer service

Even if the 380 is discontinued, I would think there are plenty of parts out in the supply chain. Sure, you might have to look a bit, but selling parts to fix the 380 seemed to be built into their business model. Maybe I wouldn't buy a new one, but I wouldn't worry too much about the one I have...

New Polaris 380 getting stuck constantly

You need to get the RPMs right. That's step one. If the RPMs are not in the correct range, any other changes you make will probably not fix issues. Water should not be coming out of your pressure relief value under normal operating conditions. You probably need to tighten it. The flat-ish...

    Best Vinyl Vacuum Head?

I have a triangle one that I hate. The brushes were getting worn, and for lack of any better ideas, I bought a replacement (same model, same well known brand that I can't recall off the top of my head), but the bristles on the new one were worse than the old after a single season. They became...
