2-year old Luna Quartz plaster chlorine pool with rising calcium and high pH

How much CH is in your fill water? If your fill water is not softened, you're adding CH every time you add water to keep up with evaporation. I'm in the Ft. Worth area and lose around 100 gallons per day from evaporation.

    Question on timers...., which one?

Hello all - I need to replace my timer setup and I'm not sure what to get. When our pool was first built 13 years ago, it had a SWG and an Aqua Logic AQL-P-4 was installed to control the SWG and handle our timer needs. We ditched the SWG several years ago (replaced it with a straight pipe...

Am I fighting a pH battle that I cannot win?

Let’s try this...., my pool loses 500 gallons in 1 week due to evaporation alone. I add 500 gallons of water to bring it back up to the proper level. The water I’m adding has TA=300.

Am I fighting a pH battle that I cannot win?

I mentioned the evaporation because for all that water I'm losing due to it I'm replacing with the 300 TA water (500+ gallons/week). I'll work on getting my TA down. Also gonna check the alkalinity with the water utility tomorrow.

Am I fighting a pH battle that I cannot win?

I do monitor CSI using PoolMath (how else would I?), it changes as expected right along with my rising pH. Unfortunately for me, pH and TA are the biggest drivers of CSI for this time of year with water temp steady at 88-90. I can fill with unsoftened water (TA 300, pH 7.8, CH 150) but then my...

Am I fighting a pH battle that I cannot win?

Like others, my pH is always on a quick rise. I lower it with MA to 7.5/7.6, within 24 hours or less it's back up to the 7.8/8.0 range. I'm fighting my fill water...., it's softened so I'm not adding any more CH but my fill water TA is 300 with a pH of 7.8. My pool is trying to reach...

    Validating test results

Quick update here...., got my standard solutions and my speed-stir. All my reagents tested good as all my results matched the standard solutions perfectly. Also, when I did the CH and TA tests, the speed-stir results and my "manual stirring" results were identical so I'm confident in my...

    Validating test results

Colormetric test strips? I tried one I picked up at Home Depot for the heck of it...., pretty much jived with my CH reading, quite different color for 250 vs 500.

    Validating test results

Yep, I know how y'all feel about pool stores but 3 different ones getting close to the same results and I come in almost twice as high? It's got me wondering, that's all. All their other measurements were relatively close to mine, CH was really the only one far off. I'll order the standard...

    Validating test results

Just curious if anyone ever validates their test results and how you do that...., standard solutions, have your water tested somewhere else, pool store, or? I'm doing all my own testing and balancing based on my testing...., but, since I had a weird CH increase (I replace all evaporated water...

    CH question

I tested my softened fill water using the 25 ML method, still get zero CH so I think I can rule that out. One other unknown for me is the test reagents....., when I test using the reagents from my kit that I bought 7 months ago, I get CH = 375 and PH = 8.0. When I immediately test again using...

    CH question

My CSI (from PoolMath) has been in the -0.15/+0.15 range all year so far, with most actually nearer to zero. I've been following test instructions to the tee, assuming all the test reagents are good, and believing all the results. Anything else I should check or any other ideas?

    CH question

Do not have a speedstir but have been very consistent in doing the testing (repeatable results). Our re-plaster was completed mid-October of 2018. CH was holding steady at 300/325 or so until June, during June it gradually increased to 425 now. Have not had much rain in June but lots prior to...

    CH question

Yep, I know about evaporation and the calcium/solids being left behind. Just don't see how it can rise at a steady rate when I'm not adding any more calcium with my softened water?

    CH question

My CH level is rising slightly every week and I don't understand why. Any water loss is mainly from evaporation and occasional backwashing. When I fill, I always use softened water (no CH per my test kit), have had very little rain lately. Any ideas as to why my CH is on the rise? Our pool...
