My pool ladder is the culprit!!!

It's heavy and has a locking gate... one of these numbers: My husband drained all the water (so he thought), but there is always some left in there. Pouring bleach straight in there, do you take off any part of the ladder? Or do you just pour it through the small holes in it? Thanks! :)

My pool ladder is the culprit!!!

It's that time of year... we're going to open the pool! :whoot: But, last year's closing wasn't as smooth (crystal clear water) as we'd hoped. We've never had huge probs with clear water using the BBB method (awesomeness) until late in the summer last year. The algae took over. We took the...

    Pool opening traditions

Well, no tradition yet--this is our first opening! Today is going to be the first day for my boys (7 and 9) to go swimming, as it's 87 degrees outside! So, I'm going to have them each jump in. No putting their big toes in and saying it's cold. Just GO FOR IT! LOL! I think that'll be our...

HELP--Cloudy water, but NOT really green?

Thank you so much! :) So, I can go to Walmart and get some stabilizer, right? I'm assuming I'd use the stablizer per instructions listed on the bottle. I never really paid that much attention to the chemicals at Walmart... hope they DO have some. If so, I'll pick it up later this...

HELP--Cloudy water, but NOT really green?

We opened our pool on Saturday. Once we got the filter running, we backwashed for about 3-5 minutes. Tested the water, lowered the pH, waited about an hour and shocked with bleach to 10. Yesterday, the water had a slight green tint to it--hubby didn't see it, but I did. We ran the filter for...

    Decks

I love all the decks I've seen here. We can't afford it, mentally, financially, or physically. LOL! But beautiful decks, all.

    Shock and pH Lower....

Very good--thanks! I'll test the CYA and the TA right now.

    Shock and pH Lower....

Everything you said would happen, happened! That's a good thing. I tested the water at the crack of dawn and here are the results: TA: 250 ppm FC: 14 pH: 8.0-8.2 I got the "false high" pH, the chlorine is high, but the TA came down a little. I think that's about right. I ran the filter all...

    Shock and pH Lower....

Great! I'm all set then. We'll definitely run the filter overnight and test again in the morning. Our 6-way test only tells us the Chlorine (which goes only up to 5) and the Bromine (which goes to 10)... how am I to know if the chlorine actually reaches my desired shock level? Our paper...

    Shock and pH Lower....

Okay, so I just used the pool calculator and for my 7600 gallons of water, I'm to use 173 oz. of bleach to shock to 16. I AM reading that right, right? Do I also add the muriatic acid or should I do that at another time? I'm prepared to do an overnight FC Loss test, just to see if...

    Shock and pH Lower....

Sorry, I got them mixed up! The one we put in yesterday for the pH lower was sodium bisulfate. The shock we put in today was calcium hypochlorite (68%).

    Shock and pH Lower....

We used that Super Shock to shock. It's sodium bisulfate. It's been hours and there is a very slight haze. I just tested the tap water as you suggested and the TA for our tap water is 50 ppm. The test strips that we used this morning before shock show FC. How would I know when it's not...

    Shock and pH Lower....

Thank you again guys! Okay, I have the 6-way test, just tested it and this is what I got (shocked about 3 hours ago): pH: 7.8 TA: 310 ppm ( ) Chlorine: 5 Our CYA is 41 and I was looking at the chart from the link in your siggie, frustratedpoolmom, and it looks like the CYA and the...
