Like PoolGate said above, just pry off the square looking frame piece that's on the bottom and you'll be able to pull off the grey case with the plates and posts out of the top. The grey case comes apart by releasing some tabs and then all the plates will be loose. Putting it back together is...
If the "cell on" light is on, you should see voltage above 19V at the DC leads to the cell, if not, your PCB is dead. If you do see voltage but 0 amps, the cell is broken. You may be able to repair with some ingenuity, see my link in previous post.
If "LO" is shown on the display, you can still get the cell to turn on by setting it to "Boost" the pool. This overrides the low temperature stopping production.
If "LO" is NOT shown, it should turn on the cell. You can verify with the "Cell on" light which will always light up when the cell...
I've been battling the short lifespan of the salt cell in my system, making some repairs that seem to last from 3 months to maybe one full season. Take a look at my thread for pics. The salt cell usually fails at the connection of the center post to the plate.
Repairing salt cell
My cell stopped working again...... At least I saw it right away with the ammeter I installed. No error codes on the display (yet). Would you be willing to send me an outside plate from your old cell so I can try that?
That would be awesome!! Like I mentioned above, I would gladly pay for shipping to get one of those. It just bugs me that they always fail at that center post and make you buy a whole new cell at $600 when the expensive parts are the plates with coating that are still 100% fine!
Let me know...
I think I will try epoxy or something like that next time it needs repair. I will probably also replace the post at that time because you can see how it erodes away wherever water touches it. I'll just use some 3/16" SS rods from Amazon for that. I really wish someone had a broken salt cell...
I think these cells are engineered to fail. Please see my post linked below on how I have repaired my cell a few times now. Seems like they could make the center post to plate connection the same as the two outside ones which never fail....
Repairing the 1400 cell
Update on the status of the SWCG cell repair:
Over the winter I have left the cell in the vessel as I keep my pool running year round. I had some time on the cell in the late fall and then I boosted the pool occasionally over the winter to keep some free Cl. I also installed a small voltage...
