Why would pool store tell me to add 2 cups of acid for 5 days?

DUH! I get it now. Had a moment. Sorry. I test TA every other day and add acid like it says. Was at 320 TA when I started and got it into the the mid 100's now. The ph is just so danged finicky. Could that be because we fun the fountain every night to cool the pool off?

Why would pool store tell me to add 2 cups of acid for 5 days?

She knows we use the sprinkler/fountain to keep the pool cool and said that would raise the ph back up to where it needed to be.

Why would pool store tell me to add 2 cups of acid for 5 days?

Surprisingly close! I don't have the paper from them with me right now but chlorine and TA were the same as what I got. I got 40 for CYA and they got 50. Could be correct since I trouble seeing the black dot. She said it all looked perfect except for ph and TA. Only sold me the acid and...

Why would pool store tell me to add 2 cups of acid for 5 days?

I needed more acid so just for kicks I bought a water sample in to the pool store to have it tested since they do it for free if you buy something. She tells me that the alkalinity is too high (I knew this already) and printed out some directions that says to add 2 cups of acid per day for 5...

    Taking forever to lower alkalinity

So it won't hurt skin or eyes? My 11 year old was complaining that the water was still burning his eyes last week. I tested the fill water and it was at 320 straight out of the kitchen tap.

    Taking forever to lower alkalinity

I've added about an inch two times. (The return makes this weird sucking noise and a whirlpool when it gets to a certain level so I added some water to stop the noise). I'm not spending much on bleach and I was very impressed with the $$ that the BBB method was saving me but if I'm gonna have...

    Taking forever to lower alkalinity

I've already added 2 gallons of muriatic acid in the last couple weeks since we set the pool up. First started out at 320 (I think. Or 300) I've got it down to 130 right now with a ph of 7.8. I can't figure out if we're doing something that's causing this or this is just normal. We have...

Why is muriatic acid better than the dry acid?

    Do other pool chemicals expire?

Does CYA, acid, chlorine tablets and other pool chemicals have a shelf life? I've been using just bleach for chlorine but I found a pretty good deal on HTH stuff at my local Walmart. Bought a 4lb container of CYA tonight for $5.27. They have ph - and tablets clearanced too. Just wondering...

    Crop dusting and pool chemistry.

We live in south louisiana and are surrounded on ALL sides by farmland. Soybeans & wheat on the borders of our yard and tons of rice fields within a half mile radius. The crop dusters drops stuff on our house allllll the time. We've had a pool for 8 years now and have never had any trouble...

    What's your current pool temp?

BATH WATER HOT! That's the temp right now. Ugh. We are running the sprinkler for 12 hours overnight and it seems like it's just not doing it a bit of good. Short of freezing 5 gallon buckets of pool water and adding back to the pool, I don't know what else to do!

    Date on bleach question

Gotcha. What's the most I should buy at one time? I'm keeping them in my laundry room and my house stays about 75deg. I just started the pool up a few days ago and the sun is eating the chlorine up fast. I have the stabilizer hanging in a sock right now since last night.

    Date on bleach question

Went back to get a few more and it's was $2.95 a gallon. It was the dollar general brand. It's says concentrated. Does that mean it has a thickener in it? It seemed thin like regular Clorox when I poured it

    Date on bleach question

So if it was bottled on that date, wouldn't still be pretty close to 8.25%? Depending on if it was stored correctly?
