    High FC loss overnight!

I did not realize that when shocking I had to maintain the shock level throughout the whole day or time frame. I'll definitely keep that in mind from now on. For now I think the problem's been resolved. Thanks for everyone's help during my crisis!

    High FC loss overnight!

Thanks for the feedback. 1 pm test results show : FC 11.5 CC .5 pH 7.5- 7.8 I feel better now. I did vacuum and backwash. I'm thinking that may also impact results but am not sure.

    High FC loss overnight!

Tested about an hour after shocking: FC: 12.5 pH: high (possibly 8) TA: 90 CYA: 30-40 (seems higher today than yesterday, we added CYA Sunday night...) I did not do CC test. According to Pool School I should shock at least twice, so I plan on doing that again tonight. I'll perform all tests...

    High FC loss overnight!

Morning! Thought I was doing great & decided to do OCLT last night. FC level went from 7ppm last night to 3 ppm this morning and CC=1ppm (it's been o or .5 all week) ugh... :grrrr: So I just shocked the pool according to the FC/CYA chart to get FC levels up to 12. FC: 3 CC: 1 pH: 7.5 TA...

    Just Starting Pool Ownership

Hi! Just wanted to chime in on the TF-100 kit. We are newbies as well (pool installed & filled last week). Ordered kit Friday and it was delivered quickly. The test kit comes with easy to use directions and all the tests you'll need to get accurate results for your water. We love TFP! The...

    new 24' above ground

I'd probably test the CH once a season just to make sure it's not too high. Do you know what your fill water CH is? I tested the CH and it's 40. We filled with well water so I'm assuming the present calcium is from that since we haven't added anything to increase CH. I checked back with Pool...

    new 24' above ground

Yay! Test kit arrrived Saturday...(Thanks Dave S. for such speedy service) had a house full of company so didn't really get to "experiment" w/ TF-100 too much. On the bright side, the pool got a good work out :P Here are my morning results (I added 64 oz. of bleach last night): FC: 7 CC: .5...

    Two CYA kits consistently disagree.

So I just received my TF-100 kit in the mail today and feel much better about the CYA test after reading this post. I figured I just needed practice. My pool was filled with well water and I used BBB method from the start so when the 1st results read over 100 I knew something was wrong since...

    new 24' above ground

Chuck/Dave J. Thanks for your advice :goodjob: I orderd the kit today and since it ships from Raleigh/Durham area I should have it by Monday. Until them I'm going to leave CYA alone (I've used just about 3lbs of stabilizer so far). Will probably hold off on any further changes to pH until I...

    new 24' above ground

Ok, so I just tested water again. Water is clear. We swam in it today & it felt fine, able to open my eyes under water w/o any stinging or itchiness. Here are test results: FC: 3.0 CC: no change in color, so I'm assuming change is less than .2 ppm pH: about 7.0 TA: 60 CYA: tested w/ test strip...

    Best pool year ever!

Hey! Glad to hear you had a successful year  We are new pool owners (24' round ag) as of Monday. Just finished filling ours w/ well water yesterday and planned on using BBB method from the start after lots of research. I haven't noticed an iron problem yet, but we're aware that well...

    new 24' above ground

Thanks to both of you for your responses. The water looks great this morning--I was a tad bit worried after putting all the stuff into it last night  I will continue to work on raising the CYA/TA/pH levels over the next few days. Hubby says he built the fountain more to help w/ water...

    new 24' above ground

Just want to let you all know how very helpful this site has been in getting started. Hubby found your site a few months back when we were just thinking about getting a pool and deciding if we wanted to go saltwater or chlorine. After lots of reading (Pool School, ABC's of Pool Water, etc) and...
