Fixing to ditch my Hayward S244s sand filter, for Pentair 160301

I had to leave for a few days, but had my wife and daughter keep up with the brushing and vacuuming, and adding 2 gallons of bleach per day. pool is much more blue, and clearing up. I cleaned the filters Saturday, got a fair amount of dirt and much algae, Pentair filters washed up very well with...

Fixing to ditch my Hayward S244s sand filter, for Pentair 160301

Like a bad penny I'm back. I successfully replaced the Hayward with the Pentair. (the Hayward S244S was removed undamaged and with all the parts including multiport valve, free to a good home) Good news is I can vacuum to my hearts content. Bad news is there does seem to be a leak on the Stairs...

Fixing to ditch my Hayward S244s sand filter, for Pentair 160301

I have the Taylor 2006 kit, The big one Leslies sells. Is there reason to replace the sand, or can it be re used? I think I was confusing Total Chlorine with Combined, the Free Chlorine and Total Chlorine almost always matches.

Fixing to ditch my Hayward S244s sand filter, for Pentair 160301

My Chlorine was running 8-8.5 so the algae does not seem to be consuming Chlorine (bleach) like it was. But the filter is still vomitting dirt and silt back into the pool, and plugs up with only 1/3 of the pool vacuumed. My thinking is that replacing the filter, I can rule it out of the loop...

Fixing to ditch my Hayward S244s sand filter, for Pentair 160301

I was reading ABCs of pool chemistry. It says Combined Chlorine should be 0.5 ppm or less. My Cc almost always matches my Fc, I had thought if the Cc did NOT match the Fc you had something consuming chlorine.

Fixing to ditch my Hayward S244s sand filter, for Pentair 160301

I will keep the chlorine level up until Monday, then load up on bleach and slam the pool. Wife just texted and said sand was blowing into the shallow end, again. I am dealing with several issues, the liner loosened up all the way around the pool 3 weeks ago (but went back tight thank God) The...

Fixing to ditch my Hayward S244s sand filter, for Pentair 160301

BTW, there is a Giant oak tree over the shallow end that dearly loves to drop pounds of leaves in the pool, so the bio load is pretty high.

Fixing to ditch my Hayward S244s sand filter, for Pentair 160301

Using the Leslie rebranded K2006, and test strips, the CYA varies with how much water I am having to flush out. The highest reading was 80, But I had to backflush enough last week, that it zeroed out, I had to add stabilizer, that brought it back to 40. I vacuumed Monday, Wednesday, and Friday...

Fixing to ditch my Hayward S244s sand filter, for Pentair 160301

Bought the house late November, and the poolman was keeping the chlorine at 10+ppm. I am trying to keep Cl2 at 4ppm but the pool is staying dirty, as in the filter plugs before I can finish vacuuming, water gets and stays cloudy (even while vacuuming very slowly). Then when I backwash the...
