New contract / New build - SE Pennsylvania, Gunite free form pool and spa

Yeah I started thinking about that today reading posts here. I mean, even if I can plaster in the next two weeks, that leaves the curing process precariously poised at the time of year we could actually get freeze. If I can't run the heater because of sediment, things could go very wrong very...

New contract / New build - SE Pennsylvania, Gunite free form pool and spa

Very nice build. About to make a thread of my own, oddly in the same area and did not run into the issues you have, expecting to have an issue crop up eventually. One question I have for you and the others here is, are you concerned about plastering/finishing this close to the end of the...

Pool store says to use CLR for calcium buildup on tile?

I've used a regular dish scrub sponge, while it didn't "eat right through" it showed that it was dissolving bits of the sponge.. 97 cents to put a little mechanical cleaning into the chemical reaction isn't a waste if you ask me. Just get good chem resistant gloves.

New here - pool paint, pool companies, pool ownership - the good and the bad

Yeah, I used epoxy over old paint.. Don't really care what kind of paint, cause I was worried the pool floated and would settle/crack, or there would be drain/pipe issues. I also read a bunch of nightmare stories about epoxy in general. SOOOOOO I said scre it.. Acid washed really well, scrubbed...

New House, OLD pool, LOTS of questions

So added enough chlorine to get it above normal level, at half full. I figure between adding more water and burn off, it should be right about perfect when it finally fills completely. SWG, solar cover, automatic vacuum should be here today/tomorrow. I'll start install tomorrow of SWG and get...

New here - pool paint, pool companies, pool ownership - the good and the bad

I feel like I am living your post right now.. Luckily the idiot pool guy is me.. Can't quite fire him, but darn he works cheap! :) Just finished painting my pool, only one bubble, going to leave it until it fails, for sure!

New House, OLD pool, LOTS of questions

Awesome, thanks for the info. It'll be 2 days before the SWG is ready to ignite for sure. Until then I'd like to maintain at least midline so it's not out of control when I go to fire everything up.

New House, OLD pool, LOTS of questions

Pool is up over the first step, so well over 50% full :) Found the port at the bottom of the skimmer for the vacuum line. Amazon has been stinking lately, so my SWG will be here tomorrow instead of today. Solar cover and reel on the way too, as is an automated vacuum, test kit, and salt...

New House, OLD pool, LOTS of questions

    Yeah. I remeasured the pool, previous owner said 20 x 40 it's actually more like 16 x 30.

New House, OLD pool, LOTS of questions

Just bought a SWG, 40k gallon. I should be just over 30k gallons. So I know I need salt, what else?

New House, OLD pool, LOTS of questions

OK folks, water line is over the transition hump :) So I got the water tested, FAC: 0 TAC: 0 CH: 100 CYA: 0 TA: 60 pH: 7.6 copper: 0 Iron: 0 dissolved solids: 0 Phosphates: 1000 Dunno if I'm going to buy a SWG yet, or if I'm going to stick to chemicals this year.. Either way, where do I get...

New House, OLD pool, LOTS of questions

Ok, so good news this far is it's filling nicely. Already up to the shallow end of the transition as of this morning. So I suspect it was a relief valve under there! So here are pics of the pump, skimmer and outlets. How am I supposed to hook up a vacuum to this? There is a vacuum in the...

New House, OLD pool, LOTS of questions

Good news is I got the retrofit drain cover on, popped my temporary plug and got about 100+ gallon rush once it popped, talk about hydrostatic pressure... I got all that nasty silt filled water pumped out and have been slowly filling with city water. It's up over the original level that was...
