New pool finished about a month ago; could I have some help please...

Here is a brief update... The recent cold snap has meant that the SWG is right on the border of being able to operate. Water temperature doesn't fluctuate as much as air temperature of course, but I'm finding that the SWG doesn't operate at night, but does most of the time in the day. This is...

My CYA level is < 30 ppm; 26.5 ppm if I had to guess based on how much was added and the size of my pool. I do think that sensor may have gotten saturated with CYA during the initial dosing in to the skimmer. CYA is known to take a long time to dissolve, and dumping it in the skimmer makes in...

So I have some updates everyone... My pool builder suggested that I didn't need to worry about CYA, but that seems like dumb advice. I watched the speed that Chlorine and ORP levels dropped without CYA, and it was pretty surprising, even in winter as it is now. During the first few weeks, I'd...

So I tested my pool water and tap water today with the K-2006 kit to get some readings, and here they are: For reference, IntelliChem reported a pH of 7.62 and an ORP of 700 when the last reading was taken at about 4pm. I took my measurements at 7pm; 3 hours later. pH: 7.6 Free Chlorine: 0.8...

I think the purpose of IntelliChem is so that you don't (in theory) have to test and add chemicals to manage pH and Chlorine daily, and rely on those things being automated. The claim is not that you don't have to test at all; you still need to keep TA, CYA (if used) and CH at levels that...

You also have a Pentair DE filter, so the advice is particularly relevant to me. Thanks!

Great advice Allen. I do have the PSI gauge on top of the filter, but as you say, at low RPM / GPM, it's tough. I don't currently have a low flow schedule, but I'm considering it. I have noted the pressure at the standard flow, and it hasn't increased at all yet. That's hardly surprising...

Thanks Allen, I did find that page, but was more interested in the specifics of a very low flow rate for a long duration, which is not specifically covered in that page.

One thing I have seen mentioned in other threads, is that some TFP members recommend a pool pump schedule that differs quite a bit from established norms. These recommendations might also be incompatible with IntelliChem as mentioned above in my limitations list. Could someone detail what these...

Yes, brushing was done every day, but to be honest, I watched, and there wasn't much dust or loss of pebbles from the finish at all. I have not cleaned the filter. It's a Pentair Quad DE, which is sort of a hybrid DE / Cartridge filter. Is there some reason why I'd need to clean the filter...

That's a very concise response Allen, and the Further Reading link was very helpful. It seems like one option would be to remove control of the SWG from the IntelliChem and I would then be able to follow the TFP approach whilst still having acid controlled by the IntelliChem. I'll have to think...

Oh, OK... I was worried that my initial long post would scare some folks off... So my concern I think, at a high level, is that IntelliChem is controlling based on pH and ORP, and the TFP recommendations are a) based on Free Chlorine, and b) include a recommendation for a Cyanuric Acid level...

Thanks very much for the response @Bperry, this is helpful. I've done some more reading on the site, and can see that CSI is more accurate than LSI. I'll post some separate, shorter, posts with follow up that target specific topics related to water chemistry.
