New Raypak 5450 heat pump...worked for a day, now high pressure trip/lockout

Raypak told us the same about water pressure, I have variable speed pump and it trips hi pressure at any rpm. Had the hi pressure switch replaced and r410 checked outat correct psi hi and low. Multiple companies out to look at it but no fault to be found. It keeps my water toasty warm all the...

    Heat pump install questions

Just a quick update on the operating costs - I used 2908 kwh this time last year without the heat pump, and 5048 kwh in the last month, roughly a 40% increase. The average temps for the past month have been 62 high/33 low. I've kept the pool at 90 the whole time, but it ends up being 95 when the...

    What's your current pool temp?

72 is brittle! I'd swim in that but only in a wetsuit.

    Heat pump install questions

Thanks for catching that! I had asked the electrician to bond it, I'll have them back out to bond the heat pump (and the pump as that's not bonded either). The cheapest unit I found at the time was $2799 + tax with free shipping from inyopools.com.

    Heat pump install questions

I want to say 3 to 4 hours a day in low 60 degree ambient, but that's a guess. I hear it running in the morning, currently have 266 hours on the HP, which roughly equates to $250 with my electric costs. It was in the mid 50 and sunny today and we spent a few hours in the pool. Getting out is...

    Heat pump install questions

I'm really not sure, it's just a white fiberglass pool with a solar cover on it. It does get to 94 degrees, unheated, for a few days in the middle of summer in the Colorado sun.

    Heat pump install questions

A month and a half later update on a heat pump in cool, dry weather (highs usually in the 60's, low's in 30's) of Northern Colorado - except for a freezing 4 day snow storm, the heat pump has had no issues maintaining whatever temp it's set to. I had it at 94 initially, but with the sun the pool...

New Raypak 5450 heat pump...worked for a day, now high pressure trip/lockout

+1, new R8450ti-E doing the same once in awhile. I called Raypak but they can't send anyone out currently. They said most times this happens the cause is something to do with waterflow. It happens to me both when the pump is on any speed. I have no idea how many gallons per minute is passing...

    Wildlife by the pool

Just wanted to share a picture I took yesterday. My house butts up to nature and wildlife come around quite often. A couple elk strolled through yesterday after a bit of snow and drank some pool water. A few years ago there was a baby bear having a splash in the pool.

    Heat pump install questions

Question on chlorine and a heat pump, the manual states this about chlorine levels: Free Chlorine (PPM)* 2 to 3 *Free Chlorine MUST NOT EXCEED 5 PPM! I usually run 50 CYA and keep FC at 4 to 6. The CYA level that matches 2 to 3 ppm FC is 20. Can I continue running 50 CYA & 4-6 FC, or...

    Heat pump install questions

I read from numerous sources to get the largest heater you can. I lose 3.1 degrees overnight with a solar cover in cold weather (graph below). It's 73 outside now and gaining 2 degrees an hour, pools up to 79. Here's how the weather has been for the 4 days I've been running the heat pump...
