OK, I thought I had this all figured out and had control of my levels the last couple months. Then, we bought new bromine tablets from Wal-Mart instead of dumb spa place. These are obviously much more potent or something because we haven't had to use NEAR as much bleach after being in the tub...

I apologize for starting a new thread, but this has nothing to do with my other posts. Our spa screen said to clean filter. We just cleaned them a week ago. We pulled them out and all kinds of nasty dirty water came into that filter area. The spa itself is crystal clear. We also saw chunks...

OK, thank you. It was 7.6 and 7.8 before the boric acid. I will keep track of it.

Just an update....Last night, the pH was between 7.2 and 7.4 after adding the boric acid the night before and the alk was at 50. I think we finally have a handle on the bromine too! Thanks again so much for all your help!

OK, I went ahead and put the boric acid in there. Just wanted to let you know!

My pH is about 7.7. (The color looks to be between 7.6 and 7.8.) It took a few times of putting in dry acid before I could get it to 7.6 and it stayed there almost 2 days. The Alk is 60. Should I go ahead and put the boric acid in now or should I work on lowering the pH more?

Thank you for the information. I think we will just stick with bromine for now since we finally seem to have things under control. I would assume there would be another filter option if we didn't want the Eco-Pur one too.

Chem Geek, In my thread about not being about to get the pH down, Blue Fin said that, according to the manual, we are not supposed to use bromine with the Eco-Pur filter. Do you know anything about that?

I had no clue. The spa guy I bought it from is the one that suggested changing to bromine since we were having problems with chlorine. Of course, the chlorine problems were mainly because it had biofilm I assume from the factory and then the spa guy told me to only use chlorine once a week and...

I finally got the pH down to 7.6 after adding pH/alk down three times. I tested the pH again last night when I was testing the bromine and it had stayed at 7.6 for a couple hours. I will have to see how it did overnight. Hopefully, that part is behind me! I am still waiting for my boric acid...
