    Sand or dirt on bottom

So, assuming this is pollen or dust....How do I get rid of it? Do you think the filter is filtering it out and then I'm just getting more each day? or is the filter not trapping it? Should I try adding the DE? or are there drawbacks to doing this?

    Sand or dirt on bottom

I apologize for my ignorance but what is a skimmer sock? And no, I was not vacuuming to waste. I'm now concerned that this may be mustard algae. How can I find out?

    Sand or dirt on bottom

Thanks for the reply. Since the pool water is not what I call "mom temperature" yet (only around 70 degrees), I will have to wait and post the information on what it feels like when it gets a little warmer. It is just really frustrating - I spent about 45 min. vacuuming the entire pool and...

    Sand or dirt on bottom

I turned to this forum last summer when I had a terrible algea problem that took several weeks to clear. We finally had clear water again after some following the directions on this forum and switching to liquid chlorine / bleach. We had been using a Pool Frog and shocking with the bags of...

Green swampy water for 2 weeks

Thanks to both of you for the info on TA testing and for the link about the CYA test. I think the last couple times I tested the CYA - I was better able to distinguish when the dot disappears. So if my CYA is only 70 then do I just wait for my FC shock level is actually lower than what I'm...

Green swampy water for 2 weeks

Okay I got my test kit in the mail. Here are the readings both last night and today... Wed 7/30 6 p.m. FC 32 CC 1 CYA 90 ? This was a little subjective on seeing the dot (it was a little faint) Added 1/2 - 3/4 gallon of liq. Pool Chlorine Wed 7/30 9:30 p.m. FC 39 CC 1 CYA 70 PH 7.8 Thurs...

Green swampy water for 2 weeks

Sorry - my mistake - We put in 1 gal of liq pool chlorine last night - it is 10% Sodium Hypochlorite (not Calcium hypo). As for my CYA - unfortunately I'm a little in the dark on that but I don't think it is below 100 yet. The pool store said "around 100". When I test with my strips the...

Green swampy water for 2 weeks

Finally I'm seeing some progress... My water looks more blue then green, - sortof a greyish blue in the shallow. I can see the bottom step on the ladder and when I brushed the pool this morning I could see my brush head on the floor of the shallow end. Wish I had my test kit here...although...

Green swampy water for 2 weeks

We switched our cartridge out to a clean one yesterday. I don't think I have any debris on the bottom of the pool (didn't before the algae came). I can't see the bottom though. Although I don't have the good test kit yet - I don't really think my FC levels are dropping that much. I've been...

Green swampy water for 2 weeks

Well we drained off quite a bit more water today (about 10 inches below the skimmer) and refilled. Our well really got a work out today I don't think we are going to be able to push it like that again (it ran for like 5 - 6 hours). On my test strip it looks like the CYA is lower but I can't...

Green swampy water for 2 weeks

This is so confusing. Yesterday after doing a couple drains and refills (before we started adding the large amounts of bleach), I decided to take my water in and get it tested at the pool store. The print out says "Congratulations" your water is perfectly balanced. The "ideal" range for CYA...

Green swampy water for 2 weeks

I saw somewhere on this site a method for estimating the Free Chlorine above 10ppm. Our test kit only goes to 10 ppm. Can someone refer me to these directions - I couldn't find them. We have drained water below the skimmer three times and refilled but I don't think we have changed the CYA...

Green swampy water for 2 weeks

I checked the bags of 'Quick Dissolving shock' we have been using and the ingredients are: Sodium Dichloro-s Triazinetrione Hydrated 99%, Other ingredients 1%, Available Chlorine - 55.5% Should I not use this - we have a whole box of it. More questions: What is the difference between liquid...

Green swampy water for 2 weeks

Thanks for all the replies. I wasn't sure where all the stabilizer was coming from - does anyone else use Pool Frog? I will check to see if that is the source of it. The one guy at the pool store said - "you've got plenty of stabilizer so that's good". If we disable this what would you...
