New to testing and pH/TA question

Thanks all, especially for the pH TA info - I'll copy to my notes for future reference. I did tell DH that he could shock away with my blessing, but the process was interrupted by a small family emergency. In the meantime, he did get one large chlorine load in and the pool was up to shock...

New to testing and pH/TA question

Ack! I hate to stretch your patience... Between the time I took the first sample and the time you told me to retest, DH added some "pH increase" (not sure exactly what it is - from the pool store). ETA - it was about an hour and half between that addition and my testing, below When I...

New to testing and pH/TA question

No - I had him hold off on his nightly chlorine dumpage last night so I could double-check the overnight loss, so there's nothing extra added except whatever additional stabilizer dissolved out of the sock. We did have the filter running with dichlor tablets during the day today - would that...

New to testing and pH/TA question

Well, I got the TFP testing kit for DH last year and he never used it (stubborn cuss!). I pulled it out this month and decided to give it a go, myself :-D I'm a little anxious, since I feel like I have to prove myself (and the kit) to DH, and I'm hoping I'm doing everything okay... First -...

    Pink slime?

Thanks for the info! The pool is usually in a lot of sun, with shade only on the deep end in late afternoon, but we've had a lot of overcast/rainy days this summer, so maybe that's something we'll have to keep an eye on in the future. The pink slime did start in the deep end. We have a few...

    Pink slime?

You don't know how many times I've debated this!! It's got to be a little bit of tough love, though (for me and the pool, sadly!) If I push, I'll get nowhere, but if he can come around to this in his own time, he'll be sold for life. (He's really a wonderful man, just mulish. Not his...

    Pink slime?

We've been using chlorine - tabs and the regular liquid pool store chlorine. (ETA: DiChlor is the name the pool store calls it). The pool is a 20 by 40 IG with vinyl liner, about 28000 gal. I got hub a TFP pool test kit (for Father's Day), but he's being stubborn and hasn't cracked it open...

    Pink slime?

20 by 40 IG, vinyl liner. We've had a nice clear pool all summer, and suddenly pink slime has appeared in a matter of days...ugh! It's clinging to the sides, but brushes off easily. Then it's in the water, looking...slimy. What's the best way to treat it? Any ideas? Thanks!
