    Using solar heater after shocking

Hi all! This might be an odd question but here goes: how long should I wait after shocking my pool to turn on my solar panel heater? Its a Fafco SolarBear 4X20 panel. I shocked last night but prefer to get into the pool to vaccuum so that I see every bit of dead algae and get it out! Can...

worried about brief polar vortex freeze this week

Thanks Donldson. I would just be worried in case we had a power outage. But I suppose it would have to be a LONG power outage for the pipes etc to really freeze at those temps.

worried about brief polar vortex freeze this week

Hi everyone! We are planning to open our 21' above ground pool today. The weather here in Ottawa has been nice (about 60-70F) the past 9 days and we are starting to grow algae and the pool is getting green so I feel it should be done sooner than later. The problem is, we are supposed to get 4...

return jet pressure keeps slowing down

Nice idea Mknauss but Burlington Vermont is the closest border city (4 hours away) and gas is actually cheaper here right now amazingly! I'll keep looking online. It does sound like I need a proper test kit and surely some Canadian company has one!!! Again, since our season is short I guess...

return jet pressure keeps slowing down

I live in Canada, as I stated, so I can't just go and pick up one of these kits. I looked online and with shipping the costs are insane with exchange. As well, I'd have to wait days for them to ship even if I wanted to spend that kind of money. I am currently looking online for Canadian supply...

return jet pressure keeps slowing down

Merged threads - TFP Mod I need help experts! I'm spending a fortune and nothing is working!! We got a new pool after our old one collapsed 2 weeks ago and have already resolved at least 3 problems with it. Now, its that I cannot seem to keep chlorine no matter how much I use. Here's the...

return jet pressure keeps slowing down

Yes- I used SIMA's Calypso opening kit which is the one my local pool store sells. There was a clarifying agent "Blow up." Also something called a "crystal stick" which were little pucks encased in a tube mesh. That is supposed improve "filtration capacity" according to the box. I backwashed...

return jet pressure keeps slowing down

By the way, when the pool was finally filled we did what the installer recommended which was to run a backwash for about 2 minutes to clear out an dirt present in the sand, so....I'm irritated because I never had this problem with my old pool or filter!! Its brand new!

return jet pressure keeps slowing down

There's no algae. The pool is crystal clear and in fact, we had it filled with municipal water which is very clean in my area (Ottawa). After doing all the treatments (we used an opening kit) and testing the water, the tests show PH slightly low but otherwise perfect.

return jet pressure keeps slowing down

I'm hoping someone can help. We just got a new pool 5 days ago (Jacuzzi 21') with a new jacuzzi filter etc. The only thing that wasn't new was our pump which is a Hayward and only 1 season old. It seems to be working fine. I have a feeling its the filter that is causing the return jet water to...

    Liquid Solar Blanket?

As Donldson said, yes, they work. But unlike him, I've had no scum problems. I use ladies knee highs as skimmer socks and I suppose that they filter anything like that out. My pool is always super clean. I live in Canada so regulations for products are different, but I use these Liquid Pool...

new above ground pool water chemistry

We're replacing our old pool with a new one, to be installed tomorrow. I will be getting half a load of municipal water but also filling with well water as we're rural. I'm concerned, because I've read that you should shock new water with granular shock but our temperatures in Ottawa are...

Does a dark liner make water warmer?

We have to replace our above ground pool as ours started collapsing after our hard Ottawa winter. We are choosing our new pool today along with the liner. I've heard varying opinions, both from professionals and laypeople about a dark liner vs. a lighter liner helping to keep the pool warmer...

Mesh cover- on or off for thaw?

Thanks everyone, but today we found that the walls of our pool are collapsing and sand is therefore escaping from under the pool! It has no water in it, just a huge 3 foot thick chunk of ice. Apparently the empty soda bottles (that someone advised we put in the pool under the mesh cover before...

Mesh cover- on or off for thaw?

Hi there! I've owned a house in the country with an above ground pool for 6 years. Two years ago we bought a mesh winter cover. Last Spring, even though the snow and ice had thawed on the cover, I left it on so that leaves didn't get in the pool before opening. However, when I took it off for my...
