Cya testing and reading.. Your thoughts please

My label is sewed on my bottle as well. When I do the CYA test, I weight the liquids on a digital food scale. 15ml of pool water and 15ml of R-0013. It takes 3 or 4 drops to equal a ml so when I get to 13 or so I do 1 drop at a time until it hits 15.

why do I need to keep slamming my pool??

I had the same struggles as you with my first season of taking care of my pool. During swim season I simply cannot keep my chlorine at the recommend levels. I have to keep my chlorine between 8-10 for it not to be cloudy. In the cooler months in Florida, I can but not during swim season. I keep...

Living on the Gulf, dealing with Black Spot Algae

I’m right down the road from you near IRB. I’ve never had an issue with black algae but I have to keep my FC higher than what is suggested in the FC/CYA chart (during swim season) or I’m just not happy with it. I’m pretty OCD about the clarity of my pool. I use a CYA of 70 and a FC of 8-10.

Higher FC because of high phosphates?

Passed the OCLT even with a lite rain last night. I’m not really sure what else to do here so I guess I’ll try some phosphate remover and hope that helps. If that don’t work I’ll try a mini SLAM for a couple days. I’m going on vacation at the end of next week so I will wait till I get back to do...

Higher FC because of high phosphates?

I realize that. The target FC for 60 cya is 4 but I can’t go lower than 8. That’s my dilemma.

Higher FC because of high phosphates?

I’m pretty confident in my CYA reading. I have the CYA standard that I use about every other time I test just to make sure I have it right. I have to admit it’s my least favorite test by far. I don’t want to go up to 70 because that will just in turn make me raise my target FC and my goal is...

Higher FC because of high phosphates?

It’s not consuming 8ppm. That’s what I need to keep my FC at to keep the “sparkle”. My SWG is at 25% for 8 hrs a day. I have plenty of room to produce more.

Higher FC because of high phosphates?

Thanks for the responses! I’ll give it a shot but I’m pretty confident it’ll pass. I did a oclt last night and passed. I only ran my most of the night instead of all night and had zero loss. I’ll do another tonight with the pump running all night and let you know how it works out. If you have...

Higher FC because of high phosphates?

Good day all, I’d like to get some opinions here. Before I found the TFP way, I used the Pool store. The last time I was in a Pool store (probably 8 months ago) they told me my phosphates were really high. It’s been a while so I can’t remember the number, but it was high. I didn’t buy any...

Water keeps turning hazy and losing its sparkle. What am I doing wrong?

I do have the sample CYA and have watched the video. I follow the directions exactly but even with the sample solution I still see the dot at 50ppm even at a glance. Maybe a bad solution? The only thing I haven’t seen is a recommended background color. I have a gold colored travertine. Maybe I...

Water keeps turning hazy and losing its sparkle. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the responses! I run my pump 8 hours a day (9-5 (when the sun is on the pool) and my SWG for 7 3/4 hours a day (9:15-5) I do test the water just before the SWG kicks on. I learned that from you mknass. I was hoping you'd chime in here. I do have a light niche so if I fail the OCLT...

Water keeps turning hazy and losing its sparkle. What am I doing wrong?

I brush and vacuum weekly and clean my cartridge filter monthly. The pool is screened in so I don’t get much debris but I do get a few leaves from our potted plants once in a while. I should also mention that it doesn't really get much of a bather load. Its usually just the wife and I floating...

Water keeps turning hazy and losing its sparkle. What am I doing wrong?

Good day all, Im kinda at a loss here. For some season my water keeps turning hazy and losing its sparkle and im not sure why. I could use some advise. At the end of July I performed a slam. Passed all 3 criteria, the water was beautiful! I was very careful to keep my FC at the recommended...

    Frustrated with the slam process

Good day all, First time pool owner and liitle background of my situation. Pool was initally filled with water at the end of April. Everything seemed fine untill I started playing with the SWCG trying to get the output% as low as I could. Unfortunately I over estimated and turned down the %...
