We are basically saying the same thing then. Thank you for all the links!!!!

Raising TA in the presence of a pH controller

Thanks for pointing out. I should have looked a little bit past the answer to my question in the Deep End section.

    will Liquid Chlorine Raise pH?

Re: can muriatic acid and baking soda be added to pool at the same time? Is there any link where this is explained and justified in detail? I mean, everybody (including pool experts) has the notion that liquid chlorine will raise pH. Is this a myth?

Raising TA in the presence of a pH controller

Do you know any links that explain this in detail? If there is a scientific explanation, I am more than interested!!! But, isn't a pH value of 7.4 better than a 7.7 because of the increased HOCl percentage? Or maybe the difference is negligible because of the presence of CYA? I think you...

    will Liquid Chlorine Raise pH?

Moderator Note: Split from this thread - can muriatic acid and baking soda be added to pool at the same time? - Page 3 But what about the addition of chlorine? Isn't it suppose to raise pH?

Raising TA in the presence of a pH controller

As I said above, the FC level is low on purpose because it is winter and the pool is not used. Now, regarding the calcium levels I believe that they are high because of the tap water used to fill the pool (I should do a measurement to verify that). What else would explain such a high CH value...

Raising TA in the presence of a pH controller

Here are my test results: CYA: 55 ppm, FC: auto-adjusted by ORP controller at 1 ppm (used to be at 3 ppm but lowered the setting for the winter), pH: auto-adjusted at 7.4, TA: 60 ppm, CH: 670 ppm (I know it is too high but what can you do?) Chlorination is done with liquid chlorine (used to...

Scientific justification of CYA/FC recommended levels

Is there a rough scientific explanation for the minimum (7.5% CYA) and maximum (11.5% CYA) FC levels recommended here or are they based on experience? I mean, I understand that HOCl is approximately 0.3*(FC/CYA) but how do we know how much HOCl is considered sufficient? I apologize if that has...

Raising TA in the presence of a pH controller

The TA in my pool (180 m3) has dropped to about 60 ppm and I thought I should raise it to around 80 ppm by adding 5-6 kg of sodium bicarbonate. Is there a reason I should turn off the automatic pH adjuster while raising TA?

I will.... Thank you again for your help and your patience

Is CYA-bound chlorine measured as FC?

I hear you loud and clear but (since an ORP/pH dosing system is on its way to our pool) I bet it still could work provided: a) electrodes are protected by filters and are well-maintained b) pool operates at a constant CYA level (i.e., sodium hypochlorite is used as chlorination agent) c) ORP...

Is CYA-bound chlorine measured as FC?

Thanks a lot chem geek. It is all clear to me now!!!! Now to wrap it all up, could you please also comment on my second question in post #14?
