What type of heating system do you recommend?

Hi, We live in Southern California. We have a 16x32' IG 26,880 gallon pool with an automatic vinyl pool cover. Over the weekend I successfully installed a new Sta-Rite DE filter. During the installation, I removed an old and rusted Purex Tropical Isle NG heater that's gone unused for four...

Does an over-sized filter increase water "turnover rate"?

Hey thanks for the info and the offer. Raining here in SoCal. Will take some measurements and get back to you when it clears. Jon

Does an over-sized filter increase water "turnover rate"?

Thank you for that information. I found a deal and went ahead and bought a Sta-Rite modular 48sf DE filter. This leads me to another question... Is there any way to "count" the amount of gallons being processed by the pump/filter system?... maybe as an inline product located within the PVC...

Does an over-sized filter increase water "turnover rate"?

Hi... narrowing this down, My system has a newer single-speed Hayward 1HP pump with 1.5" plumbing throughout. The old filter was a 36sf Purex DE stainless steel model from the 80s. If I move to a larger 48sf filter, will the turnover rate increase, thus allowing me to shorten my run times...

Hayward Perflex EC65a or 75a: Opinions?

Ted, Thanks for all your help. I mean it... you and your fellow contributors have been great! I'm going to stick with a DE filter. I've had one for five years and have gotten used to the cleaning and charging routine... takes a half-hour at best. The Pro-Grid 4820 will be slightly larger...

Hayward Perflex EC65a or 75a: Opinions?

Hey thanks for the info. A Hayward tech advised me that given my location (CA), a Pro-Grid filter would be "more robust". Honestly we probably swim two months out of the year. The rest of the time it's just something to sit around and look at (sorry pool aficionados!). We don't even use the...

Hayward Perflex EC65a or 75a: Opinions?

Thanks... I'll take you up on that once I have it installed. So you think, given my pool's size, the EC75 is a good choice? Some online retailers list it as an above ground filter. Not sure why. I certainly don't want to undersize this part.

Hayward Perflex EC65a or 75a: Opinions?

Thanks Waste for the link... good read! PoolGuyNJ I assume you're talking about the Hayward cover system. Good point... a lot of manual work to get the cover off. The Pentair Star 80 uses a single stainless steel clamp for the cover, similar to grid filters. Different regeneration method to...

Hayward Perflex EC65a or 75a: Opinions?

Thanks for the greeting. I did plan on going with the EC75. Do you have any experience with this model?

Hayward Perflex EC65a or 75a: Opinions?

Hi, I need to replace our 20 y/o Purex DE 36 SF filter with a new unit. I have an IG 26,880 pool with a Hayward 1HP single-speed pump. For financial reasons (filing BK soon), I’d like to get the group’s opinion of the Hayward EC65a or 75a. Both are well priced and within our budget...

Metal Sequesterants... Any less expensive options?

Hi, I'm just about to start the removal of some magnesium stains from my vinyl liner using ascorbic acid (vitamin C test worked great!). I'm pricing metal sequesterants online for my 28,000 gallon pool. According to their websites, I need about 3 quarts of either the Jack's Magic or ProTeam...
