Why do I keep eating Pump Motors?

The GFI is a 15. I will look at the sub panel to see if it is also 15. I've had a master electrician (wired my last house when I built it) look at this set-up and scratch his head. The pool and my basement remodel are all tied together on the same sub. There IS some funk - a 'PRO' did it -...

Why do I keep eating Pump Motors?

Thanks for the kind words Ryan... Got it all re-wired with 12g SJ cable. Good, solid connections, dielectric grease, the 'works'. At the outlet with no pump running I was at 121.1v. At the pump, with it running, I was at 114.8v. Back to the outlet WITH pump running I was at 115.8v. I'm not...

Why do I keep eating Pump Motors?

Oh, I forgot to report. Checked Voltage last night. 116 at the outlet / 109 at the pump. Not a huge drop but still a drop. That's why I'm gonna start from scratch. I'm in the same boat as you - I feel that I take WAY more than I give. I hope to be able to even that out. Regardless - there's...

Why do I keep eating Pump Motors?

You all have been a HUGE help! I'm just gonna re-wire the whole thing today using new 12g SJ cord and connections. If I can find 10g that's not too fat I'll use it instead. Its all gotta be 'quick disconnect' of some sort so I can bring it inside in winter. I cannot switch to 220V and the...

Why do I keep eating Pump Motors?

I will double check all this - I may have 12g from the outlet to the auto pilot and 14 from the auto pilot to the motor. The wire that cooks is the supply line - just inside the motor connected to spade terminals. I will look to see if there is a more positive way to make the connection as well...

Why do I keep eating Pump Motors?

WOW!!! Thanks for all the replies!! The pump is a hayward superpump - Super Pump | Pumps | In Ground Pool Pumps - Hayward Pool Products The OEM Gold motor lasted for 6 years then got real noisy (bearings) and died. The replacement motors were supposed to be the exact same spec - maybe even a...

Why do I keep eating Pump Motors?

I just replaced another motor on my Hayward pump - I put a new one on early LAST season. Its always the same thing... the black wire is toasted inside the round motor cover. I've bought spare motors from several places - always the exact same specs / same box / same 'made in china'. There is...

Pretty big wrinkles - Liner lifespan?

Thanks for the reply, CowBoy. Any other thoughts? How long does a liner last? Are the wrinkles the beginning of the end? What about removing some water to try and smooth em out? TIA

Pretty big wrinkles - Liner lifespan?

Opened my pool yesterday - Central PA - 16x32 with a 8' deep diving end - built in '08 - Pool Pilot SWG I use the test kit I got here and keep my water chemistry pretty good - I LOVE my SWG pool. Maintenance is minimal. I've had wrinkles for ever and I've tried the plunger trick with no...

8th season on my Pool Pilot SC-48 - Getting errors

Probably.... I talked to the fine folks at Pool Pilot today - very helpful. Except no one could confirm the black flakes. Said it was 'probably' the coating. Advised me to increase salt PPM and limp through the rest of the season - I agree. I added 100# today - was gonna test first then add...

8th season on my Pool Pilot SC-48 - Getting errors

Thanks for the replies I am 100% sure its set up correctly - cell is correct and voltage (120V) I guess I can replace the cord - why would that matter? What is the reason to increase salt? Do you mean set the controller to read 3400 - 3600 or actually add much more salt so it is really that...

8th season on my Pool Pilot SC-48 - Getting errors

I have been getting a Clean / Check Cell error on my system. Up till now the thing has run FLAWLESSLY since '08 - I LOVE my pool pilot! +/- 20K gal in-ground. Water is always PERFECT. I admit to being a little lazy this year with checking and maintenance (23 days of measurable rain in June...
