I guess one last question. Are there recommendations to control the CSI on simplistic pool like this, given our water is very hard and we probably don't want to truck in city water every time we need to replenish? We could use softened water, but opted not to since the softening system would...

Here are a couple photos of the pool. It looks like dirt on the bottom that should just vacuum up, but its lodged pretty good.

I do not have anything that measures just calcium but I measured total hardness and here are measurements of 4 water sources: Distilled Water: TH: 0 ALK: 0 PH: 6.2 Distilled Water w/ scale added (after 4ish hrs): TH: 240 ALK: 80 PH: 7.0 Pool Water: TH: 1000 ALK: 110 PH: 7.6 Well Water: TH: >...

Ok Thanks ... I could be wrong, but I believe part of the yellowy olive color is actually algae. We had algae settle in initially and then the scaling seemed to happen over a few months. Also for those ~4 months in the off season, we weren't checking PH. It was already borderline high @ 7.8...

James, I used 12oz of distilled water and took an initial water reading: ALK: 0 PH: 6.2 or less BIGUANIDE: 0 ppm I then put ~1.5tbsp of vacuumed scale into the water and stirred it around for about 5 mins. Subsequent water reading after stirring: ALK: 40 PH: 6.5...

I will note the vinegar was much less effective at breaking down the flakes than the CLR. However since my VIT-C test was a flop I assume the rust (iron) component of this experiment to not be factor. Maybe the CLR is more concentrated or acidic than vinegar? No ... the only other thing I...

James your recommendations gave me an idea. Since I did not have any hydrochloric acid on hand, I went with what I did have; CLR(calcium, lime, rust) remover and white vinegar. I dropped the vacuumed flakes into the solutions and both elicited a bubbling response. The CLR bubbled on the...

Not that I can recall I believe I added biguanide and algeacide a couple times on the same day toward the end of the 2020 season September / October. These were maintenance doses not startup doses. Pump was circulating 8 to 10hrs a day.

Hmm ... I don't have any. would have to order some. Would a sodium bisulfate slurry achieve the same experiment or do you recommend straight muriatic/hydrochloric acid? I am assume I am looking for breakdown or dissolve of the scale in this experiment?

Drop of acid, what kind are referring to? hydrochloric, oxalic, ascorbic, citric ...... Chemicals used last summer: peroxide (H2O2) : 27% strength biguanide: 20% poly hydrochloride (hexamethylenebiguanide) + 80% other ingredients (some of which I have been told by the rep are peroxide and...

Also so it is clear, the timeline is as follows: - New pool successfully treated with Aquasilk regimen from June 2020 through October 2020 - Pool left recirculating daily but no chemicals added from Nov. 2020 through Feb 2021. Algae and Stains developed during this time. - Went to open pool in...
