Milky water - can’t clear up

So the milky white is dead algae. That doesn't mean that you are finished with the SLAM, but it's a good sign that you are on the right track. The continued chlorine is to make sure that all the algae is dead. The milky white will get filtered out and or settle to the bottom but it could take...

    New to SWG, TA question

So balancing to keep the CSI in the range is the key?

    New to SWG, TA question

I just ordered a RJ45+ after years of liquid, pucks, and cal-hypo. I read the opening on SWG chemicals and see that 60-80TA is important. I'm currently at 140TA, 7.0pH (and just started airating to bring pH up), 50 CYA, 160CH. I'm going heavy on the pucks right now to bring the CYA up to 80...

    Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

I'm thinking of adding a robot due to the paper berch tree seed pods in the spring and leaves all summer long. (along with Japanese maple and weeping cherry) I'm zeroing in on the Doheny's Discovery. Any words of wisdom before I pull the trigger?

closed pool 52F - won't hold chlorine, should I SLAM it?

Well I ran the pump for a few hours, added 8lbs alki plus to get started last night. This evening I have: FC: 23 pH: 7.8 TA: 80 CA: 70 CYA: 30 What just happened?

closed pool 52F - won't hold chlorine, should I SLAM it?

CYA was 50 when I closed, but about half the water has been removed and replaced with rain/snow water over the winter, so I was expecting about 30 CYA. Interesting CYA eating bacteria.

closed pool 52F - won't hold chlorine, should I SLAM it?

Ahh, back to the basics. Thanks for the reminder. when I winterized the pool everything was perfect. Now? FC: 0 CC: 0 pH 7.5 TA: 20 CA: 20 CYA: 0 So, I'm going to get the pump running, bring up the TA, then use some triclor pucks to bring the CYA up and pH down (assuming the Alki plus will...

closed pool 52F - won't hold chlorine, should I SLAM it?

I think the bleach I got is old.. I added 12 gallons and have no FC 10 minutes after I added it. The green was only a little growing in the steps. The water was and is clear....

closed pool 52F - won't hold chlorine, should I SLAM it?

My pool is still closed for the winter with a mesh cover. I went to pump some water out and noticed some green growing on the steps. No FC... Water is 52F. I started to SLAM, but wanted to make sure there isn't something I'm missing. The quick chlorine test should work at 52F correct?

Passed the OCLT but still using allot of chlorine

Thanks for the comments. I have an inline puck feeder, but I didn't think It would produce enough to finish the slam while I was away for the weekend.....I also didn't want to pour in massive ppm of liquid. I chose the lesser of the evils I had available. Definitely has me thinking about the...

Passed the OCLT but still using allot of chlorine

Update, Went away for the 4th for a few days so I put 8 tri chlor pucks in the skimmer basket out of necessity. (brought CYA up to 50-60 range) Came back and the pool was crystal clear and still at slam level. I am now back to 1/2 gal 12.5% (3ppm) usage per day. So yes, in retrospect the slam...

Passed the OCLT but still using allot of chlorine

Thanks for the feedback. That is probably what started it. I had two of the trees taking out this spring. Still have one left. I will make a note to do a better job cleaning those up next year.

Passed the OCLT but still using allot of chlorine

This is an odd one. Verified the cya at 35-40 yesterday. Fresh tft refill this spring so chemicals should be good. I have been checking fc level before I add liquid bleach and after 1hour. Then again at 10:00pm and 6:00 am to get the oclt. It has been 0 to 1 ppm loss. So I have kept the slam...

Passed the OCLT but still using allot of chlorine

Pool got away from me in a rainstorm and river birch dumping seeds in the pool. Started the SLAM as it was starting to get cloudy and using twice as much chlorine with nothing left at the end of the day.. Now 2 weeks later I'm still at slam level, been passing the OCLT since day 3 but the pool...

    Algae or Another Big Problem?

Re: SLAM - Now What?? So you need to leave the pump on to filter out all the dead algae. The dead cannot come back to life. It will slowly sink to the bottom for you to vacuum up. May take a week or two withe the pump running 24/7 to clear up.
