    Completely disgusted with alternative sanitizer

I pretty regularly round up to the full jug.

You’re failing on the Maintain part of Shock Level And Maintain. We aren’t doing some sort of pool store “super chlorination” that is a one time thing. The issue here is not your filter, it’s that you aren’t maintaining a high enough chlorine level long enough to kill the organics in your pool...

It’s looking great! I can’t wait to see the transformation!

You don’t have to incredibly accurately measure 3 quarts. It’s acceptable to eyeball 3/4 gallon.

Still keep the clorine up as much as possible. The more the pool is stirred up the better - whether by brushing, robot, kids, etc.

SLAM... Can't get my chlorine levels up

We would just really advise the use of liquid chlorine in almost every instance. The only time I use tablets is if I am going to be on vacation. I will take my pool up to slam level the night before I leave and float a floater full of tablets and be fine for the week. That's the ONLY time I will...

SLAM... Can't get my chlorine levels up

That severely high CYA is why they advised you to do the sodium bromide.. Horrible advice but thats what they do. Best bet would be to make that your last trip there for advice

Stirring it up is a good thing. when its stirred up into the water the filter will do its job and filter it out

Until your pool is CLEAR, like so clear that youre not sure if there is water in it, the pump should be running 24/7.

    Should I SLAM?

I routinely bring my pool to SLAM level ahead of parties. Everyone always talks about how it's the least smelly pool and want to know how I keep it clear with so little chlorine

    MA bath for cartridges

Muriatic acid mixed with bleach makes straight chlorine gas, which is HIGHLY toxic

    Muriatic Acid and Confidence

Its easier for me with an ABG pool, but I just do all of my jug opening and pouring out over the surface of the water, that way if I do get a splash, its easy to just dunk my hand/arm into the water.

16 July 2024 Finishing Up my OB Pool

I can only imagine the look on mine's face if I told her I was going to do something different than she wants because "those weirdos I talk to on the internet about pools liked it better" :laughblue:

    Should I SLAM?

The fact that you're getting more "chlorine smell" is further evidence supporting my suspicion that your FC is being consumed oxidizing organics (algae) in the pool. You are safe to lower the TA, but it's not something that you NEED to "fix" or chase into some magical range. You can just keep...

    Should I SLAM?

It is perfectly safe to swim up to SLAM levels, and the difference cannot be noticed. The "Chlorine smell" that you'd experience in a non TFP pool is a result of high CC levels, and is not typical. The "chlorine sting" in the eyes is typically unbalanced pH. Due to the effect of CYA on FC, there...
