    Pressure Reading after Cleaning Filter

I've had my pool 5 years, and every time I clean my DE Filter (Pentair FNS Plus 48), the pressure gauge settles between 10-11. I don't skimp, I take the whole thing apart and give a thorough hosing. Today I did the same, and the pressure reading afterwards is 14-15. Is this normal for it to...

CYA and FC trade off in the TEXAS SUMMER HEAT

Just to weigh in as a DFW resident: In May, I was losing about 3ppm daily with my CYA at 40. As the June drought with 100+ daily temps began, I bumped my CYA up to 50. I now consume about 3-4ppm daily. I do also get direct sunlight the entire day.

    DFW (North Texas) CYA Levels

Just wanted to gather the consensus of any living in the Dallas/Fort Worth area on what they like to keep their CYA at. Considering the amount of sun (and storms). Mine is at 20 now, but I think I should probably raise it to at least 30.

    HASA Chlorine Strength

jmastron, that seems like a very plausible guess. I'm eager too to see if it continues. Jimrahbe, we're neighbors, I live in NRH and have been going to A-Quality for years. Are you saying you had the issue at a different store, or at A-Quality? But again, I'm under the assumption jmastron is...

    Suction Side Air Leak

Thank you. Yes, the pump basket stays as full as you see when the pump is running. I'm thinking the only culprit would be the small elbow of PVC between the ground and the pump? I believe the lid to be fine, as I have a new gasket and that sucker is tight.

    Suction Side Air Leak

After lots of research on this topic, I'm wondering the general opinion of this trusted community. In this video, I'm bleeding the air from the filter. I do this daily, and this is an average amount of air. My question, is this 'normal', or should I investigate an air leak. Link: Suction Side...

    HASA Chlorine Strength

Good question. I'll ask at my local pool store next visit, but I'm guessing it's a safe bet that they are getting fresh chlorine as they're selling it rapid fire this time of year. I am aware of the Lowes/Home Depot 'trap' of how they leave their jugs outside and as the summer progresses, it...

    HASA Chlorine Strength

I have been purchasing liquid HASA chlorine for years now, as it is strong at 12.5% and has no unwanted additives (like CYA). It was very stressful last summer when there was a shortage for a few weeks. My question: after having opened up a few weeks ago, I feel like the HASA chlorine isn't as...

    Reading PH level correctly

This is kind of a 'stupid' question. I have the TF-100 test kit, and have been doing my own testing for a few years now. I just recently discovered when using the R-0014 Red for reading PH on the color scale, my result will vary wildly depending on how long I shake the plastic reader. 2-3...

    Visible Algae or Dust/Pollen?

A lot of great feedback from all of you! Let me answer your questions. YipeeSkippy: I honestly have not noticed it on other areas... and so I will do another OCLT for double verification. I haven't brushed as recently as I should, but more because I'm observing the <mystery>. I vacuumed maybe 2...

    Visible Algae or Dust/Pollen?

Thanks for the replies. So, I did run the OCLT, and passed it. This would be the biggest reason I am uncertain. You both say it looks like algae... this is from your experience? What can you point out to me that makes you think it is? I guess what I'm asking, is what makes you think it's algae...

    Visible Algae or Dust/Pollen?

I know this topic has been covered many times, and I have spent a long time reading numerous posts on the forum, only to be banging my head a little... This may sound incredibly stupid, but how do I know if I have visible algae, or is it just dust/pollen? I've attached photos. Reasons I...
