Considerations when converting indoor pool to saltwater

Thanks - I just emailed my pool company to get an estimate and see if it's a viable option.

Considerations when converting indoor pool to saltwater

2 Hours x 7 days on med-high 4 additional hours on Sat (to make sure temps stay higher for the weekend) 5 additional hours on Sunday (to make sure temps stay higher for the weekend) I used to run it much more on low each day, but didn't see any difference so reduced it to what it is now.

Considerations when converting indoor pool to saltwater

Hmmmm, I have a Salinity Refractometer for my saltwater aquarium. Let me see what that shows... We put in a new liner 9 months ago, so relatively new water and not a ton of chlorine just yet. You're right that the FC loss is relatively low with our always-covered, indoor pool. I can usually...

Considerations when converting indoor pool to saltwater

I use bleach/liquid chlorine. I have the TF-100 Test Kit and I have never tested for salt. But even if there is "some" salt in the pool, would converting to a "true" saltwater pool with a SWCG cause issues for an indoor pool that might not exist for an outdoor pool? I am mainly trying to rule...

Considerations when converting indoor pool to saltwater

We put in a new liner in 2022 on a 15-year old pool and are now thinking of converting to saltwater. I have done no research yet of what this entails, or if it is even feasible with the equipment we have. But before I go down that rabbit hole, with an indoor pool, what special considerations...

Liner replacement (indoors) and new water chemistry

You're probably right, it's definitely time. I'll get the FC up a bit now and see if that has any impact. Scumballs will be here tomorrow. I'll report back this weekend and see how things are looking. If I see no real improvement, then I'll have to bite the bullet and backwash/clean the filter...

Liner replacement (indoors) and new water chemistry

Not in recent memory lol. I had a few bad experiences and ended up with a pool full of DE, both with an older filter, and with a literally brand new one (that had a defect). I've been traumatized and cant imagine having to vacuum the pool another 50 times to get the DE out if it happens again...

Liner replacement (indoors) and new water chemistry

It's an indoor pool. For the most part, no one is wearing sunscreen when getting in the pool, and it's only been used once since the liner was installed. Ordered the scumballs and will throw them in tomorrow to see if it helps. It's been holding for a while. Again, the pool is indoors, and...

Liner replacement (indoors) and new water chemistry

Also, the water surface looks like an oil slick (only visible when the light hits it just right) and the liner is very slippery. I heard that it's normal with a new liner since there were lubricants added during production to keep the vinyl pliable. Is this really normal? Could that contribute...

Liner replacement (indoors) and new water chemistry

The water was a bit cloudier than I would want yesterday, so I checked some levels. PH = 7.5, FC = 4, TA = 60. I heard lower TA can sometimes lead to cloudy water, and added 3 lbs of baking soda (acc to Pool Math) to get to 70. Repeated the test today 24 hours later and again I'm getting 60 TA...

Liner replacement (indoors) and new water chemistry

These instructions are similar, but the amounts are different than the TF-100 Test Kit I have. Which instructions should I follow? Fill the sample tube with pool water to the 10 ml mark. [My kit says 25ml] The top of the sample will be curved. This curve is called a meniscus. The bottom of the...

Liner replacement (indoors) and new water chemistry

Having trouble with the CH test. Followed the instructions, but the solution never turned red (the drops were red but they turned clear). Added 20lbs of Calcium about 23 hours ago. Is it too soon? TA = 70 CYA = ~30 PH = 7.5 FC = not added yet

What’s the recommended mix time after adding baking soda before testing TA?

Amazing. I just so happen to have that very bag on hand. Thanks again.
