Love this site, best pool advice... Please bring back the FC/CYA chart with shock numbers. The calculator is lovely but I prefer the table, both?

Charts way better. A quick, simple glance gives you everything you need to know. Pool calculator is time consuming, especially if somebody knows the basics. Lower PH before a shock (7.2 if going to really high) Ensure alkalinity in range Apply chlorine per CYA chart. Takes a 3 second glance for...

What's the best place online to buy everything "pool equipment"?

I need a part for my chlorinator, some parts for a cleaner, and probably some pump parts if not a whole pump. I also need some DE and would like to order bulk testing chemicals for chlorine and Ph. I'm looking for a website to order pool parts and chems, etc - is there a "greatest site for...

    Pool chiller - homemade evaporative

When building these homemade evaporative coolers, I posted a question about restricting some water flow and increasing PSI by replacing inlet jet eyeballs. (Yes, you can do that, BTW.) There was also a request to post pictures of the chillers. So this post is just showing my creation in case...

Awesome, took your advice and plugged up two of the other returns.

I'm going to post the design as a separate post with a tip or two.

can I reduce eyeball size without adverse effect on pump?

I have put together a couple of evaporative chillers. We live in Texas and when it goes over 95, the pool will get too hot and may not cool down over nite. Essentially, you get run away heat. So, I made these homemade chillers out of PVC and they work OK. Well, I want to get more pressure and...

is the inline filter necessary on cleaner?

I have a polaris 280 pool cleaner. I've never had so much as a piece of grass in the inline filter (coming from the jet to the cleaner). Now there's a little crack in it. Can I just remove the whole inline filter assembly? It doesn't seem to serve any purpose.

    CYA Catastrophe

Hey, you don't have an impending disaster here. I'm just hoping you weren't panicking from a few of the posts here. Relax, if you don't have algae, you're still fine. Lightingguy had the best advice, keep the chlorine on the high side while you deal with the CYA problem. The CYA isn't a thing...

Got TF-100 Test Kit-First Test Results

Need the TA value, BTW. You want that to buffer pH. Also, SWG or straight chlorine? In the meantime, FC a little low, probably want to get to 3.0 for CYA of 40: Pool School - Chlorine / CYA Chart pH should come down. You need to add some muriatic acid. How much? I just dump a few cups and...

    Greetings...newbie checking in....

Well, if it were me, I'd just jump start the chlorine with at least a full gallon of bleach (liquid chlorine). Liquid chlorine can run from 6-12.5% so that's a big swing. But with a 41K gallon pool, and that low FC, it's not going to hurt to dump a gallon of any factor in there. One thing is to...
