    Slamming with low CYA

How can I test for ammonia or know if I have bacteria that is eating my cya? I am pretty sure I am testing correctly, thanks for the link btw. I guess I will just keep testing and give it another week before I add any more cya.

    Slamming with low CYA

I said the cya was 0,15,30?? because I really don't know what it is, I cant get it to show up at all during testing. I am using the Taylor test kit recommended by TFP, and I have been using it for about a year, so I am pretty familiar with testing. the According to what I have added in the last...

    Bleach Prices 2014

You got lucky, I just went back to my target yesterday and the buy 3 get one free deal was over. :( Still was able to use the 5% off, but that's not such a great deal unfortunately. - - - Updated - - - I was at Aldi (in Houston TX) a couple of days ago and saw the 96 oz bleach for about 1.30...

    Bleach Prices 2014

Chem geek, if optimal temps for storing 8.25 is around 72-74, should I move my bleach into my house? Its pretty hot here and our garage is pretty stuffy. Our average daily highs are in the mid 90s and lows around 78, I imagine my garage is staying in the 80s most of the time. Or should I even...

    Bleach Prices 2014

Correct me if I am wrong, but every bleach I have seen has the HE sign on it. There maybe ones specifically formulated for HE, but all the bleach I have found has the HE logo, I think its just saying they can be used with HE machines. I am using some to slam my pool right now and have had no...

    Bleach Prices 2014

Not as good a deal as some, but for me locally the best deal I have found was at Target. Buy 3 of their store brand 8.25% bleach (Up & Up), get the 4th free. The regular price is 2.99 per gallon (121 oz), but it works out to being about 2.25 per jug or .22 cents an ounce (based on this...

Pool Leaking After Replacing MVP spider gasket

Well super glue seems to have done the trick. It looks like I had not one problem with the valve, but two. One, the gasket kept loosening up (hence the super glue), and when I would glue it down I was having trouble getting the area clean and dry. I think the prior owners must have glued it down...

    Borates vs Salt

Thanks Chem geek, that's exactly the kind of information I was looking for. I highly doubt my dog's drink that much in a day, so the amount they drink from the pool wouldn't be anywhere near enough to hurt them. As for the rim, I have no idea either, although it's not showing an corrosion...

    Stained and pockmarked pool surface

Jblizzle, Yeah, if I am going to bother with it, i want the whole thing done right. Besides it more than a few spots, its scattered around the pool. I figure when we do it, we may go ahead and do the deck, coping and mastic joint as well. Its just going to be awhile. I was hoping to find...

    Borates vs Salt

Saw this and I thought i would revive an old thread. I've been debating the borates vs salt topic with myself as well. My concern is that I have 2 large dogs that think the pool is their water dish, no matter how much I try to keep them from drinking it. How much would it take to make a pet sick...

    Stained and pockmarked pool surface

Well that's a bummer. I guess we will just have to budget for a re-plaster in our future. Thanks

    Stained and pockmarked pool surface

Our pool has some brownish stained areas, and many spots and areas around the pool that are rougher (like sandpaper) or marked like the surface was chipped or eaten away by something, where you can see something dark like a black spot underneath. Functionally it isn't causing leaks or cracks...
