Pool filter not working so well this season? Or maybe just an unusual load of fines in my pool

Looking better, today. Completed the OCLT this morning, and saw no loss of FC overnight (yay!). I may hop in the pool later and do another manual vacuum - that seems to be the fastest way to deal with the fine stuff on the bottom. That'll depend heavily on motivation and pool temp (still...

Pool filter not working so well this season? Or maybe just an unusual load of fines in my pool

I'd made a post on the "Let's see your water..." thread, and I didn't want it to turn that thread into a discussion that was too focused on my pool, so I made this complimentary thread. I don't think there's anything too crazy going on, but sharing in case others recognize a pattern and want...

Let’s see your water after removing winter cover!! **RESURRECTED FOR 2025!**

Right you are! When I did that, I had forgotten the proper procedure, as I'd never had to do it before (I'm sure I read it back when I started frequenting the site). I was thinking I just had to get it to the right FC level (per the app and my CYA level - 30ish, maybe really closer to 20-25)...

Let’s see your water after removing winter cover!! **RESURRECTED FOR 2025!**

I'll give that a shot... again :) I did try adding some two days ago, but I made a critical mistake in using some that I had on hand which is NOT pool grade. I don't think I'll make that mistake again!

Let’s see your water after removing winter cover!! **RESURRECTED FOR 2025!**

Here's my contribution :) I opened Saturday, April 12. I didn't snap a pic right away, but I have a video clip that I grabbed a shot from - this is just a few minutes after being uncovered. You can see some of the felt pads from the cover still in the pool, and clean spots from where some were...

New SWG install - late in the season

Another update - I got my Taylor K-1766 yesterday. After a few very confusing attempts at testing my salinity, and getting some wild results, I went to youtube, found Taylor's instructional video, and then went back and re-read the instructions a bit more slowly... I was only supposed to add...

New SWG install - late in the season

Excellent question - it doesn't serve a lot of purpose. Expediency and part reuse. That whole assembly, from the gray PVC coming out of the MPV to the gray PVC union half on the other side of the 2" ball valve (most of my plumbing is 1.5") was already put together and sitting in my box of misc...

New SWG install - late in the season

I finished the install of the RJ-60 today. I'd plumbed it in a few days ago, but had a couple of small drips to take care of, and I hadn't installed the control unit yet. This morning I modified my pump controller to include powering the SWG, got the old ORP-controlled bleach dosing pump out...

New SWG install - late in the season

I've been fiddling with pulling the data back out of the PoolMath backup file, and it looks like I've used 85 gallons, not 83, for the year. Usage in May was 24 gal for 22 days (I opened on May 8), June was 22, July was 21, and Aug is 18 so far - considering my FC is STILL too high, that sounds...

New SWG install - late in the season

Thanks for the follow up. Re-reading, I see that you did clearly mention that your on/off times were 8a and 8p - but I guess my eyes were drawn to the pretty picture instead :) I was still confused about the origin of the 4.2W that you were adding in, but now I see what you were doing - you...
