Thinking about adding a heat pump if I'm planning on adding solar panels/battery to home

I have a 150k raypak heat pump heating 22k gallons near Sacramento and this is now our 3rd or 4th year with it. It’s fantastic - it can heat the pool up past 90F if we wanted. It takes 24-36 hours of constant running to get it up to 80F when the water is 50F in Feb or Nov if needed. We typically...

    Heat Pump VS Solar Heating

So far so good although I don't have usage or cost numbers yet and don't have electric bill with usage. I can say that it has been heating pool from overnight losses to 80F in about 2-3 hours. We've had a lot of cold temps this past week and wind which all contribute to the heat loss. I'm...

    Heat Pump VS Solar Heating

Performance wise, I had no problems with my solar thermal. It worked great, I had to turn them off in the middle of the summer otherwise the pool would get too hot. They worked great. Then they sprung a leak. And are worthless for the 6 months we don't swim. With solar PV now I'll generate...

    Heat Pump VS Solar Heating

From what I have found, FAFCO panels are somewhere between 1000-2000 BTU/sqft per DAY. I don't know what a "day" is but I was running my pump from 10am-6pm. So assuming 1500 BTU/sqft/day, that's 576k BTU/day which is 72k BTU/hour. The heat pump maxes out at 140k BTU/hour. It's on a curve...

    Heat Pump VS Solar Heating

Here are the last three days according to Screenconnect. The air temp sensor is in direct sunlight I believe - ambient air temp peaked at 88F the first day and is supposed to be 90F today. I have no cover and get quite a bit of heat loss at night, clearly. First day no heat pump, no solar, no...

    Heat Pump VS Solar Heating

@grey1988 the heat pump is now up and running. At 11am with ambient temps right now at 72F @26% humidity. I’m getting what I think are 14F delta air temp difference between intake and outtake and this is translating to 5-6F water temp rise with infrared thermometer on the pvc connections. The...

    Heat pump wiring help

The two singles are 20. It is old and overcrowded but the solar PV company I’m going with said it doesn’t need to be upgraded 🤷‍♂️

    Heat pump wiring help

The 50 was not tripping at the same time as the 200. I found one of these 50/20 at a Home Depot an hour away and bought it for in store pickup. I’ll have the option for a new one tomorrow if wiring correctly doesn’t work.

    Heat pump wiring help

It’s tripping immediately. I tested continuity on the two black wires at the service disconnect and no tones with breaker off. The electricians said they had to drive 40 minutes away to find that breaker but I’m with you, it looks completely old and busted even though they just installed it...

    Heat pump wiring help

I think I’m doing this correctly but flipping the breaker causes main panel 200A service disconnect to trip, indicating a short or I’m overloading the panel (I’m not) I had electricians run 50ft of 6 AWG wire from main panel and they installed a 50A breaker. Heat pump hadn’t arrived yet which...
